SU only ran 66 plays yesterday. Best yd per play of the season at 7.1, Only 11 real possessions, 7 in the first, 4 in the second. 3 TD's, 1 FG, two missed FG's, 55% drives scoring opp drives. Do that with 16 possessions and there's your 45 pts per game. 8 of 15 on 3rd down, no 4th down attempts. A solid game from an efficiency perspective. Run the ball better and the offense could be really good.

Uconn, the slow play team, ran 91 plays. Only 8 of 21 on 3rd down, but converted a 4 of 6 on 4th. Kept them in the game.

We were inconsistent though. The first two drives were great, as was the last drive. In between not so much. There were 7 normal drives that produced 0.0 points. However that should have been 3 points thanks to a missed short FG. That is a long stretch without scoring.

There was also the FG before half in between the TDs. Glass half full if we had more time we get more than 3 there. Glass half empty if we weren't in an end of half O and UConn in an end of half D, would we have scored?

Even including the end of half "drive" that is 3 points in 8 drives which should have been 6 points with the missed FG.

You've answered part of the reason why.

UCONN is not a big play team, like our past two opponents. They had to grind its way down the field and against a mediocre (ok, bad) defense, stops are rare.

the offense didnt score but only had three 3 and outs. thats not bad.

1 drive was a failed 3rd and one it was at least 30 yds though.. interesting in that we have gone for it in that position all year at home..

so 2 bad drives in the first and 4 scoring drives.
two out of 4 in the end half is ok..

would really like to know how the coaches feel about the drives that stall.. You can see some of the missed plays on TV , but whose to know if the coaches even expect the QB to see the open guys in the progression trees.

Still if we had 1 power back some of the mistakes would be minimized. you cant run power plays with a 160 lb Fr RB.

We do have a power back

Couple of more nugs.

SU against Lville, tied for most points scored, most yards against Lville by 130, SU 414, Charlotte, 208, FSU, 284, Marshall, 207.

Most points and yards that Uconn has allowed this year.

They've outgained 3 out of 4 opponents this year.

I know people dismiss total yardage, but when going through such a radical transformation, points are a lagging indicator.

All four games with 400 or more yards vs five total in the two previous seasons.

And right now 30th in 3rd down conversion percentage vs 112th last year, 108th the year before, and 80th the year before that.

And this is just four games into the transition with significant instability on the OL and problems generating much of a running game.

That's impressive.

this year would be an utter disaster under anyone but babers. this line and these backs - injuries, youth, whatever - it would be really bad.

we'll never know but what we're seeing is really impressive compared to what I think it would've been without babers

Our oline has actually been very impressive. Rare early pressure on ED.

5 punts, an INT, and one goal line stand starting inside the 5 out of 12 possessions isn't bad.

They also had the ball over 38 minutes. Nearly 2/3rds of the game. Not going to run a lot of plays when the other team has looooonnnnnng possessions.
