Pretty much confirms what we already knew with realignment...

Purple is where people are moving to, orange where they are leaving
The midwest/flyover country is BLEEDING folks...
Everyone is relocating to ACC country...
Syracuse/Onandoga County has had a net decrease every decade
Buffalo area is even worse

Pretty cool map to play around with. You can zoom to individual counties, search by age group, race, decade etc.

What is that one county in upstate New York that's purple? Ontario? Canandaigua and Geneva both lost population from 2000 to 2010 so how has the county as a whole grown so much?

Looks like Ontario and Seneca both saw pop increases in the 2000 - 2010 range

Big 12 country, outside of parts of Texas and Oklahoma, doesn't look too healthy either.

I believe the CNY metro population decline slowed to a trickle or halted in the last decade. Basically treading water. Not great by any stretch but not bleeding out like it was. There are some real opportunities to change this trajectory in the next few years but we need a clean slate with city administration because they've created a toxic business climate.

Has the State become friendly to business? If not, the city and county can only do so much.

Of course, media releases last week did identify the focal point of the County’s increase in population — the Town of Victor. The Town’s growth spiked from 9,977 residents to 14, 275 since 2000, which is a 43 percent increase. In the past few months, speculation about census figures for Victor came up occasionally

Well, a good start would be a city administration that doesn't try to capriciously jack up tax assessments... defame major developers... and then use taxpayer $ to hire NYC law firms to cover their criminal wrongdoings.

Being in a dark-purple county is not all roses. I live in Forsyth County, north of Atlanta. Uncontrolled growth around here. They are clear-cutting huge swaths of land for new subdivisions. Traffic is already a nightmare and getting worse. Infrastructure improvements can't keep up. You get stuck in traffic even on the weekends. But...plenty of jobs and reasonable taxes. Home prices are getting out of hand. People are getting multiple offers on their homes after just a few days on the market.

Beat me to it. Yes, Victor. Moved there a few years ago. Just over the border from Monroe County. Also, has become the retail hub of the east side of Rochester.

Onondaga county pop is the same as it was in 1970.
