He mentioned that on his radio show during the whole ordeal. He was one of the few people who took a step back before jumping to conclusions.

About the only thing that seems to stop Gottlieb these days is the free-throw line. Gottlieb's average from the line the last two seasons is the same as the number on his jersey - 44 percent.

44% for a guard? No wonder SU didn't want him, that was even too low for SU, which we all know historically is not exactly a free-throw shooting team!!

Back when Oklahoma St was here for the Eastern Regional's in 2000, during their public workout, some fans were shouting Doug's way. Rather than ignore the comments, Doug engaged the fans. Yelling back at them, "Don't you adults have better things to do than spend a lunch hour harassing college basketball players?


They may have been opposing fans needling him about his 44% FT shooting. It sure got under his skin as the veins in his temples were ready to burst. I was near the exit where he was headed. I have never seen another player react in such a fashion.

The bitterness really started I wanna say in 2004 or 2005 when he ripped something about the Syracuse team and JB ripped him back. They had a little feud, but now are cordial. With that said all Doug has said about us is that we aren't the favorite to winning the National Title. He said we are the 3rd best team behind Kentucky and North Carolina.

I think he does have a little bitterness, but he always make fair arguments so I just can't hate him all that much. Especially since his analysis in most other instances is better than anyone else at ESPN (with a few exceptions, Bilas, etc..). It may not even be bitterness either, at this point it's probably just fun to get a rise out of us.

The Boeheim vs. Gottlieb fued started early on in his stint at ESPN in 2004 when Gottlieb accused some Big East teams, including Syracuse, of playing non-conference schedules so easy they were “fraudulent.”
Now perhaps "fraudulent" wasn't the right word for a guy who was kicked out of school for credit card fraud to use. In fact, Boeheim actually fired back that, "the only thing I know about fraudulent is (Gottlieb's) use of credit cards". Boeheim also went on to say, "One guy in particular was in our league for a minute or two but he couldn’t play in it. He seems to do the most talking, probably because he wasn’t a very good player and he’s not very smart about basketball."

In a bar by the Turning Stone Casino Burr said, "Go tell your friend Daryl Gross to go F' himself."

His friends had to correct him because he was referring to George, they said, "Are you talking about the guy you threw out of the game in Syracuse?" He nodded his head, yes.

They told him that wasn't Daryl Gross.
