Melo getting D Rose

Forgot about the opt out. Good call.

They pretty much sell out every game still, somehow. (And I've had season tickets for over a decade, so I'm one of th e suckers)

You are a good person.

D Rose is a small term bet so the Knicks can be entertaining and sell tickets for one year.

After this year, they let him walk, trade Melo and build around the return from the Melo trade and KP.

Everything else is noise.

My hope is that:

- Knicks lose enough this year to get a lottery pick next year, in one of the best drafts in a long time. HELLO LONZO BALL!
- LAC are in disarray enough that they trade Blake for Melo
- Bron does Super Friends II with the LAC and the east ends up wide open for the Knicks to make a move.

Stop worrying about this year. We want to lose enough to get Lonzo Ball.

You think Ball is that good? He's not even projected is a lottery pick next year in most places...

Well I don't think the Knicks will be bad enough to get a top 5 pick. So I'm looking at two things:

1) Guys that fit the new NBA/Hornacek's style
2) Guys that have a high ceiling

His J needs some work, but he can shoot. He's got great vision and can run. Can play D.

I like him and think he'll creep up draft boards.

Ha this is probably n ot the time to mention my dad foots the bill for most of it, but i show up dammit!

It's hard to believe, we've had them since the year they traded for Marbury. I can't believe that was 12 years ago or whatever it was
wow, the Marbury 'era'.

I also got roped into seasons for the 04-05 year after they made the playoffs in 04.

wilkens & Marbury to the promised land!!!!...

waa..whaaa...whaaaaa...thump.

I think that was more perception than anything though. Gasol had that one bad year where Dantoni misused him, and was getting older. His last year with the Lakers was back to form, and he's had two excellent years in Chicago.
You think he's been at the same level as Melo (minus the injury)? It seems to me that he's been a very good piece whereas Melo has still been at number 1 option status.

Yeah I think the first year we got tickets was the year they got Marbury; they got knocked out of the playoffs in round 1 so I wasn't back from from school to get to go to a playoff game though

He was 18 and 11 last year. 17, 12, and 4 this year. All star both years. Not checking but I think he got at least one all NBA nod in there. I'd say on a similar level to Melo. With Butler out so much he was their main guy for awhile. Really, their only guy for awhile so similar to Melo in that regard too.

The sense I get on Gasol is the numbers are a little more empty than they've been in the past; the defense is a little worse. But I don't follow the Bulls enough to say for sure.

Average PG with borderline all-star upside on a 1 year deal > average C with no shot at all-star team on a 3 year deal, disappointing rookie PG, old YMCA player

Yup. It's worth the gamble. If it doesnt work, who cares? They werent doing anything this year anyway.

Going forward, Porzingis and Melo(or whoever he gets traded for if he approves) are the only players on the roster that matter. As long as they dont give up a first rounder, nothing is really a bad trade at this point.

Agreed. Depending on what they do with the other holes on the roster, a 7/8 seed is not totally out of question... But the biggest thing this year is Porzingis' development and maybe just how good of a new HC we have.

2nd Rounder was a nice throw-in too.

I just think it's a damn shame that Melo has never really had a great supporting cast. As such... he's never really had the opportunity to be on a team that had a realistic shot at getting a title. If you consider the teams that have claimed titles over the past decade or so you see that each team has at least 2 elite players and then several others who are specialists/ role players but are very good at what they do. It seems that Melo has had the misfortune of playing on teams which were poorly constructed and did not have any synergy. He is always called on to do more than he really should and his reputation as suffered from it.

I really wish that the Knicks could get it together and put some parts around Melo before it's too late... it might already be too late as Carmelo has had to endure several seasons of some horrible teamates around him as he has played some of the peak years of his career. What a waste... but Melo is too classy to moan about it... he just brings it every single game. I just think its really unfortunate that he has had to spend the best years of his career in situations which were ...let's just say "less than ideal".

Just curious. Who views these moves in relation to how they affect Melo and who views them in relation to how they affect the Knicks? I'm sure there are varying degrees of both.

Yup. If Rose can stay healthy and take it up a couple notches from last year, Melo can maintain his level, and KP can continue to grow it could be an entertaining year

Yup. Simmons actually wrote a really good article on this maybe 2 years ago. His basic point, if I remember, was that a Melo led team COULD possibly win a title...but we will probably never know. I believe he's only played with 4 all star teammates...Iverson once , Billups once, Amare once, and Chandler once I believe.

I'm still holding out hope that Melo gets moved to a contender this summer.

I care about the Knicks only as long as Melo is on the roster...but as an NBA fan, KP and Melo are the only players on the roster that matter. KP could be a franchise player though, so they may have hit the jackpot there. Need him to progress this year, but I like what I saw in year 1.

As a syracuse fan it's frustrating, but Melo has to accept some responsibility for it. He had two opportunities to pick where he wanted to be.

Yeah...what I have a problem with is people criticizing him for BOTH moves. You can rip one of them, but not both. You can't rip on him for choosing to play with Amare, and then criticizing him for not going to Chicago to play with Rose. As I see it, he got burned once. Why go to Chicago and get burned again? It's not like he turned down the Spurs, Thunder, Cavs, or Warriors.
