I got a chuckle out of this.
    http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/most-hated-baby-names-is-your-kids-on-the-list-2480235.html

    Girls
    1. Nevaeh
    2. Destiny (people dislike names that confer a virtue onto a child, Wattenberg said -- and many associated this name with exotic dancers)
    3. Madison
    4. Mackenzie
    5. McKenna
    6. Addison (an example of a masculine named turned feminine, which many people dislike, Wattenberg said)
    7. Gertrude (people said this name is "ugly")
    8. Kaitlyn (for its "made-up" spelling)
    9. Makayla
    10. Bertha (author's note: duh!)
    Boys
    1. Jayden
    2. Brayden
    3. Aiden
    4. Kaden (these rhyming names struck many as overdone, Wattenberg reported)
    5. Hunter (too much like a last name or "too violent")
    6. Hayden
    7. Bentley (people dislike brand-name names, Wattenberg found, calling them "trashy")
    8. Tristan
    9. Michael (too boring, according to some)
    10. Jackson

Funny how many of those are on the popular list at the same time.

No lie, in the past year in my neighborhood we've had a Jayden, a Kaden, two Bentleys and two Jacksons. Its a town home community with a bunch of young Mormon families in Utah, so the baby making rate is pretty high.

I've always hated the name Mackenzie. What's really crazy is how much Twilight has affected the most common baby names lists.

Last thing - my son is 9 months old, and finding a good name was really difficult. So much to consider. We went with Bennett, and still feel good about it. Unique but readable and recognizable. Also considered Felix and Donovan. Couldn't believe Donovan made it to the final round with the Mrs.

I'm sharing way too much, but it's Friday, Friday, got to get down its Friday.

That's a good, solid, kind of old-school name. I like it.

Did you consider exitsfunnel? I'm waiting for it to catch on. In all seriousness, I'm happy for your child that you decided against Felix. At this point (I'm 41), I don't expect that I will have children (in the spirit of sharing too much I am currently mulling over the possibility of having a vasectomy), but if I did I have always liked the names Santiago for a boy and Kenya for a girl. I know that those are both a bit off the beaten path but somehow I've just always liked the way they sound.

Note to self: Don't name your next son anything ending in "-den"

    We did not consider exitsfunnel.

My Spanish choice was Salazar (I was a Mormon missionary in Argentina so there are a lot of Spanish names I had in mind) but the wifey used veto power on that, which is fine because I vetoed a ton of hers. Santiago's pretty cool, I like that. It's funny how you get into a name for a gender though. If we had a girl I would have rooted hard for Dion, with absolutely zero reason why.

I say this in all seriousness - if you get snipped you should absolutely post about that if you're comfortable doing so. A fairly anonymous message board like this predominantly populated with dudes would be a great place to have someone post about their decision and how it went. Seems like that info could be really helpful to other people, and get some ideas on it to them in a way that they might not otherwise have that info available to them, you know?

I like it! It is a very strong name as well especially given what middle name you could combine it with. Our babies photographer has a son named Bennett as well and I commented the same to him.

FWIW my 5 1/2 week olds name is Logan Alexander for the same reasons you cited as well as the one I mentioned. Plus the PA announcer won't have trouble with it when he's playing the 3 for Mike Hopkins in 18 years.

I can recite that entire final court scene off the top of my head word-for-word without missing a beat. It's probably my most impressive life-skill.

Oh, his middle name sucks. My wife picked her favorite cousin's name. Doesn't flow at all, especially given our Polish last name. I just pretend the middle name doesn't exist.

Logan's a good one. That was in the mix for our boy too for a long time.

It's funny you should post that. I'm pretty sure that it was that movie that originally put the name in my head.

It's just as well, especially if you think that he might become a skydiver. Other skydivers would make fun of him.

That's really interesting. How long were you there and in what part? Do you speak Spanish? Does the church provide language instruction to the missionaries like the Peace Corp?

I will. Actually, I think that I probably mentioned it, hoping that some of the other posters who'd had it done, might respond with their experiences. I have a feeling though that I won't do it, even though I think that it makes sense for my situation. We'll see.

HA! Can't win them all. I initially got snubbed on my name choice but after months of looking the wife was finally on board. People are AMAZED that I named our son so apperently wifey's win out quite a bit.

Our 11 year old was on board with Logan as well because it's Wolverine's name so it was a win win!

I'm thrilled by the fact that I got to pick my son's first and middle names (coincidentally, today is his first birthday).

Nice, solid Irish name: Conor James.

    Happy Birthday to him!

Reading his name makes we want to sing "Fields of Athenry" while drinking a porter... but it doesn't really take much to get that result from me.

I mean your board name may or may not be a giveaway.

With the initials CJ I'll be looking for him in the recruiting class at SU prior to my sons arrival on the hill as well.

Well since I write under my actual name, I'll just say, it's Kelly. So my kid is Conor James Kelly. Every bit as Irish as I wish my own name was.

And he doesn't know it but he's going to be running the point for SU starting in 2029.

a couple we know said they were going to name their son Jasper, which I loved . . .

until they said they were going to call him Jazz for short, and then I hated it. Much too precious . . . if you are going to get a name like Jazz, you have to earn it. Plus, you know the kids at school are going to call him Jizz.

We know another woman who named her son Zen . . . that is a heavy burden to grow up with. He's only 6 but he already looks weighted down by it.

Considering my favorite number is 3 and growing up I always dreamed about being a star Irish-American point guard for Syracuse (and I'm 6-2, which GMac clearly isn't but was listed as), I expect nothing less. I also told my wife I'd hit anyone who called him CJ, but then Fair came along and I'm pretty ok with that.

Jasper was actually my nickname for a long time which I never minded. I'm not sure though if it's the kind of name I'd actually want codified on a birth certificate.
