with the newest expansion talk going around and some of the numbers-
you have to wonder if its because these new networks are willing to get stupid with the money-

espn will no longer be a monopoly -no doubt they feel some heat and want to own everything before these new kids start opening up the check book-

even the big east has to be watering at the mouth right now,they have more than one outlet to sell to-

i think there is no doubt the new networks helped trigger the conference expansion.

i think the BC AD or football coach came out and said ESPN went to the ACC, after the BE deferred on the negotiations, and told told the ACC to take SU/Pitt to destroy all value in the Big East so that they BE would have no leverage when negotiating with other networks.


big win for ESPN. ESPN helps to trigger the consolidation. minimizing the number of contracts it needs to negotiate with, locks the contracts up for a few years, centralizes the big schools (the value of the contracts) into fewer contracts, and ESPN makes most schools believe they are better off then they ever could be.
