Syracuse first to offer East St. Louis juniors

East St. Louis (Ill.) juniors Jarell Anderson and Terrion Williams both picked up their first offers last week and both from the same school.

Syracuse was busy in St. Louis last week, extending offers to many of the top juniors and sophomores in the city.

The Orange also crossed the border into Illinois and extended two offers at East St. Louis, running back Jarrell Anderson and linebacker Terrion Williams, the first offer for both but not likely to be the last according to Flyers head coach Darren Sunkett.

"I think the big thing with Jarrell is the power he runs with," Sunkett said, "and to go along with the power, he has outstanding breakaway speed. He's a track kid. He runs a 10.7 100 and combines the power with blazing speed and you've got a top-notch back.

"We been seeing a lot of schools showing interest and his recruiting should pick up as the process moves along. We are just starting to get our feet wet with the recruiting process due to a long season, but by next Signing Day, he could have ten offers or more."

Then there is Williams, who has the size and ability to play several positions.

"I think the thing is, he has length. He is about 6-foot-4, 245 pounds right now, got long arms and great explosiveness off the ball so he's a kid right now that can play in a 3-4 defense, play the outside linebacker position or he's a kid who could play in a 4-3 scheme. He can put weight on, he can bulk up to 285-290 and play some three-tech. He's a versatile athlete that can fit in any university's scheme."

These two are both likely to see more offers come their way, but Syracuse made an impression by offering first.

"Well I think it's a great thing for Syracuse. This is very fertile recruiting ground, so they can get within the state of Illinois and win a few recruiting wars and it's a great thing for our kids to play in a top notch conference and get an offer to play for an ACC school, play against Florida State, Clemson, Louisville, Virginia Tech, schools like that. It's a great opportunity and it is big for them to get a first offer like this."
