Those of you who watched that classic state championship game five years ago remember Jordan Canzeri out rush Ashton Broyld 224 to 196. Canzeri scored three TD's and Broyld scored two, but Broyld also had a TD pass as Rush Henrietta beat Troy. Here is an article that recaps that game.

Broyld had a bunch of offers and even though Canzeri had a great high school career, he only had one D-1 offer. Fortunately Iowa saw something that no one else saw and here is a great article by Mike Farrell offering a mea culpa.

So fast forward five years and Canzeri has rushed for almost 1000 yards this season and Iowa is 12-0 and a chance to win the national championship. Broyld is MIA and his former Syracuse teammates have struggled the last few years. Amazing how this stuff happens sometimes.

Canzeri has really been snake bitten by injuries but is having a fantastic year. Even this year, he's missed two games and most of a third with a sprained ankle.

Certainly more than one on this board heavily platooned for Canzeri.

I watched that game and am a Capital District resident so I was pulling for Troy- Broyld was unquestionably the best player on the field that day. I am sure he "made his own bed" so to speak, but he was misused in Syracuse from day 1.

As for Canzeri , it's great that he is having success. As you said, he really has battled through injuries.

Something happened here to turn Canzeri off to the Cuse and Marrone and staff to Canzeri. Big questionmark.

Here is an interesting thread from 2011 about Canzeri. I'm always rooting for local kids but Canzeri just didn't have a lot of D-1 interest. Like someone in this thread mentioned, Canzeri was going to Nova until Iowa stepped in late with an offer. He just didn't have the interest he should have.

Most Upstate NY kids are ignored by the major Programs b the kid from Liverpool should be a 5 star player but no one even knows who he is.

Canzeri is an intelligent smart hard working young man and SU really missed out. George Morris came here at 6-1 195 lbs 2 years later he is listed 6-0 191 ilbs. McFarlane same thing still around 200lbs. Jordan Canzeri was 5-8 170 and now 5-9 195. Hard work battled through injuries to be where he is. Character wins!

You mean Scott, he is a 4 star athlete who everyone knows will not qualify. That is why he won't get any offers.
