That's the rumor being reported on CBS Chicago:

Fantasy owners of Peyton and his receiving corps better be hoping this is not true.

I'd hate to see a season without Peyton. It's always great watching him put up 400 yards on a Sunday.

Hopefully this will open up more time for his commercial acting career, where, in my opinion, it gets no better than Peyton.

SI's Peter King is told "reliably" that Peyton Manning has not undergone a third surgery on his neck. Yet.

Manning had his first surgery during the 2010 offseason and a second in May. Recent rumors -- unreliable in nature -- have claimed Manning had a third operation last weekend. "Manning could have a (third) procedure," conceded King Wednesday night. "He and team still investigating options. But it has not happened yet." The 35-year-old quarterback remains ruled out for Week 1 with no timetable for return.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen confirms that Peyton Manning underwent cervical fusion surgery on his neck Thursday morning.

Manning's recovery timetable is 2-3 months at minimum. Per Mort, there's no word yet on the possibility of injured reserve. Manning won't play before Halloween and possibly not until Thanksgiving.

Sounds like either Peter King or Chris Mortensen may want to reconsider using those particular sources, can't both be right.

King's info is 24 hours old, and was correct at the time.

Where there's smoke, there's fire.

Here's hoping he's back in time to bury Brady in the playoffs, but with his luck this year, returning this season doesn't sound like a given.
