Is very complicated and based on a few key factors. First you have to know your own players weaknesses and strengths. Second you have to have a feel for their ability to execute certain plays and schemes, third you have to understand your opponents weaknesses and strengths and fourth you have to read the game situation including momentum, field position, time of game, weather, conditioning etc... It doesnt do any good to call a play that on paper will work if you do not have the player skills to execute it. It doesnt do any good to call a play if the team is not comfortable in executing it. Lombardi focused on execution. He ran a fairly simple set of plays but he ran them to perfection. We have solid talent but our coaches have put too much on them especially on O. We did better in the second half because we simplified everything. Sure NW had the game in the bag and played a much easier D but we executed better because we cut down on the number of plays. The same thing happened last year. We cut down to a dozen or so plays and executed. Seriously how many plays do you need to beat a D? Execution and talent are the keys. At this point i believe we have enough talent to compete with most of our schedule. If we focus on execution and simplify things for the kids i believe we will be much better off.
