QUARTERFINALS

CLASS AA

CNS 41 Henninger 21
The Black Knights scored on an 80 pass play and then led 13-6 but the Northstars answered with five unanswered touchdowns to move on:

Corcoran 14 Auburn 12
The Cougars forced 7 turnovers to eliminate the Marron who had been coming on strong:
Late touchdown gives Corcoran 14-12 playoff win over Auburn

Baldwinsville 42 F-M 6
The Bees, after a slow start, are rolling and looking like the powerhouse they usually are on the ground. Jack Buis ran for over 200 yards and 3TDs.
Baldwinsville runs over Fayetteville-Manlius and into sectional football semifinals

CBA 7 Nottingham 6
The Brothers had all kinds of problems with the Bulldogs. The potent CBA offense never scored. They won it thanks to an 81 yard fumble return:
Christian Brothers Academy survives scare from Nottingham in Class AA football playoff

CLASS A

Whitesboro 53 Fowler 8
A 1-6 team obviously had no business being in the playoffs and it showed:
Top-seed Whitesboro begins defense of sectional title by blowing out Fowler
This game was 46-0 at halftime.

Carthage 28 J-D 14
A fumble return was important to this game, too. J-D was driving deep into Comet territory when a quarterback sack-strip and 75 yard return created a potential 14 point turnaround – and that was the final margin:
Carthage hands Jamesville-DeWitt another loss, advances to meet Whitesboro

Indian River 56 Fulton 26
Two years ago the Warriors used an unstoppable running game to bull their way to the only state Class A title Section III has ever won. They looked ready to do it again against Fulton, running for 515 yards:
Indian River cranks up the run game, tramples Fulton 56-26

ESM 35 Watertown 28
The Spartans had all kinds of trouble with the Cyclones, finally breaking a tie with a punt return in the final minute:
Buck's punt return for TD in final seconds lifts ESM past Watertown

CLASS B

Cazenovia 51 Skaneateles 0
The Lakers were no match for the Lakers:
Cazenovia in beast mode, gets down and muddy to drown Skaneateles (video)
The “beastly” Lakers from Caz were up 44-0 at the half. Where is Tim Green when you need him?

Chittenango 44 CVA 30
The Bears fell behind at halftime, 14-24, and decided they had to go to the air, even in a rainstorm. The result was a 30 point second half:
Chittenango gets off the mat, delivers second-half knockout blow to CVA

Mexico 32 Marcellus 13
Quarterback Dante Turo rushed for three scores, passed for another and also got a pick 6 to personally take care of Marcellus:
Turo scores five touchdowns including three in fourth as Mexico downs Marcellus

Homer 6 Oneida 0
The Trojans got their third shut-out in four games in the rain against Oneida:
Homer defense gets third shutout in four games, blanks Oneida 6-0

CLASS C

Canastota 42 Thousand Islands 0
Thousand Islands had 1,000 islands but no points:
Fast start does trick for Canastota in 42-0 playoff win over Thousand Islands

Lowville 21 Holland-Patent 0
The Raiders literally ground out a win over the not-so-golden Knights:
Lowville ground attack carries Raiders to Class C quarterfinal win

APW 24 Little Falls 18
The Rebels reversed a 12-21 regular season loss to the Lions by bolting to a 24-0 halftime lead and barely holding on to win:
Palmer, Mull lead A-P-W past Little Falls, advance in Class C sectional playoffs

General Brown 47 Tully 7
The Lions overwhelmed the Black Knights with military precision, marching to a 33-0 halftime lead:
No. 1-ranked General Brown gets back to dominating performance against Tully

A freshman quarterback threw three TDs to lead Onondaga over Mt. Markham:
Zachary Delaney's trio of TD passes gets Onondaga football playoff win

F-S 26 Watertown IHC 20
Nick Manino caught an 18 yard TD pass in overtime after rushing for 125 yards and scoring twice in regulation to lead the Knights over the Cavaliers:
Frankfort-Schuyler football knocks off Watertown IHC in playoff overtime thriller

Sandy Creek 14 West Canada Valley 7
Joe Benedict didn’t break his state rushing record but did run for 166 yards and both scores to lead the Comets to victory over the Indians:
Sandy Creek football holds off West Canada Valley to advance in Class D playoffs

Dolgeville 48 Bishop Ludden 42
6-0, 6-6, 14-6, 14-14, 22-14, 28-14, 28-21, 28-28, 36-28, 36-36, 42-36, 42-42 and, finally 48-42. (Dolgeville didn’t have a kicker so they ran for all their conversions)
Chase Doxtader's 286 yards, 5 TDs leads Dolgeville past Bishop Ludden

SEMI-FINAL match-ups

CLASS AA

Cicero-North Syracuse 8-0 (249-77) NYSSWA #11 MaxPreps 6/1042 PS#2 titles: None
Corcoran 4-3 (176-159) NYSSWA NR MaxPreps 81/3688 PS#6 titles: 6

Baldwinsville 6-2 (228-161) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 33/2297 PS#4 titles: 4
Christian Brothers Academy 8-0 (281-54) NYSSWA #7 MaxPreps 5/1038 PS#1 titles: 10

In the regular season: CNS beat Corcoran 27-0 and Baldwinsville 20-7. CBA beat Baldwinsville 37-6 and Corcoran 34-16. Baldwinsville and Corcoran did not play. Obviously CNS and CBA didn’t, either.

Comment: CNS seems too strong for Corcoran. I’ve assumed all along that they would come up short to CBA in the final as the Brothers are the more traditional power and seemed better statistically but after that Nottingham game – and Baldwinsville’s thumping of F-M makes me wonder if CBA will even be in the finals.
Class AA football: Semifinals feature top seeded C-NS and CBA

CLASS A:

Whitesboro 8-0 (273-83) NYSSWA #3 MaxPreps 50/3035 PS#3 titles: 8
Carthage 5-3 (238-173) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 131/5139 PS #8 titles: 3

Indian River 6-2 (258-184) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 117/4637 PS#7 titles: 2
East Syracuse-Minoa 8-0 (313-83) NYSSWA #12 MaxPreps 66/3401 PS#5 titles: 2

In the regular season: Whitesboro beat Indian River 42-14 and Carthage 16-0. Indian River beat Carthage 28-21. ESM beat Indian River 21-7

Comment: I think Whitesboro will handle Carthage again but Indian River is looking very good and ESM was not impressive against Watertown. It’s similar to the Baldwinsville-CBA situation in Class AA. The team with the better record may not be the team that’s playing the best right now.
Class A football: Undefeated Whitesboro, ESM on track to play for title again

CLASS B

Cazenovia 7-1 (333-89) NYSSWA #12 MaxPreps 27/2031 PS#2 titles: 10
Chittenango 6-2 (201-104) NYSSWA HM MaxPreps 142/5351 PS#7 titles: 3

Mexico 7-1 (280-107) NYSSWA #17 MaxPreps 39/2679 PS#4 titles: 0
Homer 7-1 (202-103) NYSSWA #21 MaxPreps 110/4528 PS#5 titles: 4

In the regular season: Cazenovia beat Mexico 28-18. The other schools didn’t play Caz or each other.

Comment: The Lakers, after their upset loss to Utica Notre Dame by a single point in a game they dominated most of the way, have been taking no prisoners and have not only the sectionals but another state title in their sites. Mexico has no historical pedigree but seems the best of the rest.
Class B football: Section championship still runs through Cazenovia ... maybe

CLASS C

Canastota 8-0 (333-71) NYSSWA #3 MaxPreps 67/3409 PS#3 titles: 0
Lowville 7-1 (268-103) NYSSWA #13 MaxPreps 124/5014 PS#9 titles: 3

Altmar-Parrish-Williamstown 6-2 (228-122) NYSSWA #17 MaxPreps 187/6360 PS NR titles: 0
General Brown 8-0 (350-103) NYSSWA #1 MaxPreps 80/3666 PS#1 titles: 6

In the regular season: General Brown beat APW 21-12 and Lowville 28-6. Lowville beat APW 20-13. Canastota played all the teams that lost in the quarterfinals but none of the teams that won.

Comments: General Brown in #1 in the state but Canastota’s Red Raiders look just as impressive. And don’t under-estimate Lowville, who has a defense that could keep them in the game against anyone.
Class C football: Are Canastota and General Brown headed for a collision?

CLASS D

Onondaga 8-0 (307-99) NYSSWA #10 MaxPreps 173/5971 PS#6 titles: 6
Frankfort-Schuyler 7-1 (239-168) NYSSWA #7 MaxPreps 259/8224 PS#10 titles: 1

Sandy Creek 6-2 (273-180) NYSSWA #150 MaxPreps 241/7831 PS NR titles: 2
Dolgeville 7-1 (364-196) NYSSWA #5 MaxPreps 204/6747 PS#8 titles: 16

In the regular season: Onondaga beat Sandy Creek 16-8. Dolgeville beat Frankfort-Schuyler 62-23.

Comments: In the past Dolgeville has been famous for their defense. They seem to get involved in wild scoring battles this year. Onondaga can score with anyone but they can play defense, too. F-S and Sandy Creek could be very competitive.
Class D football: Rugged semifinal match-ups will leave two good teams on outside
