Cascade/Maverik Media Poll: Maryland No. 1 in Everything

On Selection Sunday, Maryland earned the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The women's team did, as well.

Monday morning, the Cascade/Maverik Media Poll has the Terps as the No. 1 team in the country, as does the women's media poll (where Maryland has been No. 1 all year).

Maryland earned 27 of 29 first-place votes.

There is movement throughout the poll.

  • Yale is back in the Top 5, up to No. 3 after its Ivy League Tournament championship
  • Albany drops four spots to No. 8 after an early exit from the America East Tournament championship
  • Marquette rises fast, up to No. 11 from No. 19 after shocking Denver in the Big East Tournament championship
  • Rutgers is the first non-NCAA Tournament team in the poll; the Scarlet Knights were listed as one of the "snubs" of the tournament and are No. 16 in the poll.
  • Harftord is into the Top 20 at No. 19, while Hobart is receiving votes; just five votes seperate the Statesmen and No. 20 Harvard.

But the NCAA says that we're only #8. They must be right.

How do the Orange fall from #5 to #6 when they won. To add to that, ND tooknan early exit from the ACC Tourney and jumped SU.

Kids, this is why drugs are bad for you. You can no longer use your brain for logic and reason.

Voters looked at the seedings and changed some selections based on that.

Yeah, it seems like they are trying to manufacture a couple of easy brackets for some and eliminate the worst problems by placing them in the same bracket.

I understand the need for making first round games local for travel but seeing should not be affected by this need. Once the first round is over, the seeing should hold true to benefit those that have earned their seed.

Just an opinion, not worth getting worked up over.

Imagine if basketball had to draw up seedings and matchups to avoid travel.

The East would be woefully under represented or Pitt and Syracuse would be "Western" teams for the hoops tourney. I guess there really is no other way, but I can dream of a day when college tourneys make sense...
