Syracuse
Among what the Orange lost from their midfield, Scott Loy was the primary dodging threat. Billy Ward was the change-of-pace guy who was at his best inverting and working around the crease. Once Randy Staats established himself as a starting attackman, Derek Maltz was similar in the way he could roam the crease as a midfielder (where he’d done that as an attackman previously in his career). For the valuable roles they filled, those three graduated players were ’Cuse’s fourth-, fifth- and sixth-leading scorers, accounting for about 21% of the Orange’s scoring output last year. Also gone (perhaps most significant) is face-off specialist Chris Daddio, who rebounded from early season struggles to finish 2014 at 50% and most importantly solidify a trouble spot for the Orange staff.

Hakeem Lecky and Henry Schoonmaker figure to take over that dodging responsibility that Loy occupied, and they’re coming off 17-point seasons, as is Nicky Galasso who one could easily imagine stepping into the role that Ward leaves behind. Sophomore and former No. 1 recruit Jordan Evans still figures to fit into the mix, as well. At the face-off X, Syracuse brings in two freshmen and two DI transfers to join an already sizable stable of FOGOs on the roster.
