It gets very little attention but the American league has absolutely dominated the National league over the last 12 years. While the two leagues have split the last 12 world series, 6 wins for each. And the all-star games have gone to the American league by a 9-3 margin. But the real eye opening numbers are in the inter league play. As the numbers show, it has been very one sided.
2004 AL 127 NL 125 couldn't get any closer
2005 AL 136 NL 116 AL starting to show it's dominence
2006 AL 154 NL 98 That is a very embarrassing number
2007 AL 137 NL 115
2008 AL 149 NL 103
2009 AL 138 NL 114
2010 AL 134 NL 118
2011 AL 131 NL 121
2012 AL 142 NL 110
2013 AL 154 NL 146
2014 AL 163 NL 137
2015 AL 167 NL 133
12 year total AL 1,672 NL 1,436
Now we can't ignore the elephant in the room. The two leagues play by different rules. The question is, who is hurt worse when they are the visitors in a inter league game. I think it is the American League. They lose a hitter that the count on as a important part of their offense. And the double hit, is that they add a amatuer hitter to their line up. Many haven't been hitting in years since every league in the world now uses a DH other than the NL. The NL adds a hitter when they play a AL team but since they don't plan for the use of a DH, that hitter isn't up to what the AL will use. A disadvantage to the NL for sure. But overall, the disadv antage is greater for the AL in my opinion.
