The Bird is the Word

As a freshman in 1978 they told us Bird was sinking an inch a year because the architects did not account for the weight of the books! That was obviously #urbanmyth

I was told similar in '84 as a Frosh.

And after I graduated 7 years later, it hadn't budged. :p

Prior to Bird, there were some old houses that served as student housing on the site, if I recall. They were quaintly called "cottages" instead of "dumps."

During the construction of Bird, I and some friends from my dorm wandered the building one night. A friend asked someone to turn on a flashlight, and when the light went on, my friend realized that he was about to walk into an open elevator shaft.

Apparently, there was once a cemetery on the site and the backhoes unearthed a very old headstone. One of my friends took it to his room and the "owner" of the headstone was toasted everytime we had one of our too many beers. Rather than take it home with him over the summer, he stashed it behind some bushes outside the dorm but when we returned in the Fall it was gone.
