THE UPSIDE

- Jim Boeheim said that merlin couldn’t turn this team around by 5 O’Clock Friday. That’s because he wasn’t a Hall of Famer.

- This game could well prove to be very important in March. When we were consigned to the NIT in 2007 and 2008, losses we’d had in November and December, before the conference season were cited in the explanations as to why. We could not afford to go 0-2 in New York, especially with tough games coming up.

- We looked liked an imperfect basketball team tonight. It was an upgrade from Thursday night, when we looked like a lousy basketball team.

- Our big men were supposed to be intimidated by their bigger, stronger men but Rakeem Christmas and Chris McCullough had 38 points on 14 for 23 shooting , 16 rebounds and 4 blocks. They also made 10 of 13 free throws. It’s nice to have big men who can shoot from the line because they get hacked a lot. Actulaly, they got hacked more than that.

- Michael Gbinije had an awful night shooting, 1 for 8 with a specular missed dunk. But he had 7 rebounds, 3 steals, a block and an assist.

- Jimmy Salatin mentioned that Trevor Cooney was trying hard to be a leader, being very vocal with his teammates, calling out defenses, etc. JB even had him bringing the ball up. He also hit three three pointers and scored 14 points, so he may be coming around.

- We now get a couple of lesser teams, Loyola of Maryland and Holy Cross for JB to work his magic and get this team back on course before it gets tough again.

- Those of us who remember the last stand of the Louie and Bouie Show are smiling, somewhere deep inside.
