I am not excited about the apparent focus on pooch punts (previously with the place kicker and now the QBs). I had hoped Shafer might embrace newer-school-probability-based-4th down strategies rather than traditional-meathead-conservative-football coach philosophy. Unfortunately, I think we'll see lots of punts on the opponent's side of the field this year.

Kendall Moorse is one VERY impressive teenager! I love these high character kids that Marrone brought in and I'm ecstatic that HCSS is following suit. Makes you proud to be an SU fan.

I wouldn't be to worried, this was written by the same "reporter" who cited Tim Dauost as the Offensive Line Coach.

While I agree with you in theory, our defense has a chance to be a force this year and will absolutely be the strength of our team. Our offense, on the other hand, may struggle at times.

It all depends on the situation and how the game is being played, but I don't necessarily think it's something to be concerned with.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Especially since the author/s are unaware that a pooch punt is not a 4th down strategy. It is a 3rd down strategy to surpise the defense when they don't have anyone back. Its not something to do frequently but I have seen it used very effectively in HS games. if you've got a strong defense and its 3rd and long , drop a pooch punt down in the corner and let it roll roll roll. You can easily gain 20-30 yards of field position based on no returner back there.

I also hope we don't see a lot of punts in the other side of the 50. Our offensive lien will kind of determine a lot of that.
