Reaction: No. 4 UNC 17, No. 2 Syracuse 15 (IL)

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – It was a packed house of 6,004 at Fetzer Field on Saturday as No. 4 North Carolina (12-1, 3-0) topped No. 2 Syracuse (8-2, 2-2) 17-15 to remained undefeated in ACC play.

Luke Goldstock (4G, 1A), Chad Tutton (3, 1) and Jimmy Bitter (2, 2) led the Tar Heels offense, while goalkeeper Kieran Burke’s 14 saves earned him his seventh win of the season.

Shane Simpson, Peyton Klawinski, and Joey Sankey all added two goals each while Steve Pontrello and Tate Jozokos added singles in the win that sent the team’s graduating seniors out on a high note.

Also adding an assist, Sankey overtook Marcus Holman to claim the school record for career points, currently sitting at 214.

Dylan Donahue (five goals, one assist) and former Tar Heels midfielder Nicky Galasso (three goals) led the Syracuse offense while goalkeepers Bobby Wardwell and Warren Hill made a combined eight saves in the losing effort...

North Carolina Outlasts Syracuse in ACC Thriller (LaxMag)

No. 4 North Carolina topped visiting second-ranked Syracuse in a game that featured 32 goals on 97 shots but began and ended with defense.

UNC goalie Kieran Burke made seven first-quarter saves to stake the Tar Heels to an early 5-0 lead. So hot was Burke in the game's opening period that Syracuse took 16 shots but scored just once.

For most of the next three quarters, the ACC rivals put on a wild, back and forth contest befitting two of the nation's best teams rounding into playoff form until just 30 seconds remained. That's when, with UNC suddenly clinging to a lead that had felt safe all day, Tar Heel defenseman Jake Bailey made a game-saving glove check on Syracuse's Kevin Rice that stripped the pre-season All American and ended Syracuse's final attempt at a comeback, finishing the 17-15 victory at home...

What's all the fuss about? If we finished a few of those 6 pipe Shots and got a few more stops from our usually solid Def and Goalie we win by 3!!!
