As I saw the thread about SU being a 20 point dog against LSU it made me think about my upcoming trip to Las Vegas. I'm curious as to what might be some interesting, or maybe even some stone cold lead pipe locks that I should look for. Syracuse related would be ideal, but I'm sure those of you who are degenerate gamblers (and I say that with peace and love) might have some other suggestions. Since this is new to me, I have to surmise that if I win on a bet that doesn't take place until later in the year, that I would have to make my way back to Vegas to collect my winnings. True?

I think early odds have money on Bama paying out $7.50. Obviously there are no stone cold locks in CFB, but I do like those odds considering the massive amount of talent on that team and a defense with lots of upperclassmen projected to play.

No. You sign the back of your ticket and send it back to the casino certified mail. You'll get a check a couple weeks later.

I have no idea what the number is but I'd bet the under on the second half of the Houston Astros season if you're there in the next week. And, a fun bet for your heart, definitely bet something on Cuse football over.

I'm not necessarily looking for Cuse or college football exclusively. I might be there for the Home Run Derby which might be fun.

$1,000 New York Football Giants: SuperBowl Champion 25-1

if you shop around, maybe you can squeeze it up to 28-1

Here's a tip: if you are going to Vegas looking for "stone cold lead pipe locks" be sure to pack extra clothes - because you are going to lose whatever you are wearing.

LOOK at the chicks!! Boy if we were Methodists, what a shot we could have had of getting laid right here... one of the greatest movies of all time.

We...we...we was just out lookin' for a pack of cigarettes.

Is one Sports book preferable over another, or are all casinos pretty much the same in that regard?

Yep. I have done that a few times I have won out in Vegas on "season bets" and always get the money pretty quick.

Caesars Palace to me is the meca. I also like the Mirage as well.

Keep an eye on the Brady suspension news and the Pats over/under win total for the season. If he is out 4 games and that Over/Under WIN number stays double digits around 10 or so, take the under. Without Brady, with that schedule the first 4 games, and with Garoppolo at QB the Pats go 1-3 to open the season almost for certain. 2-2 at best if they get lucky. For them to get to 10 wins might be impossible. If the Brady suspension is reduced to 2 games or so, all bets are off and avoid the bet

Thank you. I was thinking Caesar's. I know nothing is a lock. No matter what I bet, it'll be fairly conservative. Thanks for the tips. I won't forget your vig ;)

Lol... You are pissing that 1,000 away...

I grabbed the over for 4.5 wins. I also picked Todd Frazier to win the Home Run Derby. So far, so good!

Put a few bucks on SU the win the NCAA basketball NC. You will get very good odds... and who knows. Prior to the 2009-2010 season I got 75-1 odds on SU. And were it not for Arinze's injury...

They're at 50-1 now. Was there a few weeks ago and it had gone down from 250-1 to start in January.

Put what I had in my pocket down - relatively small bet - but a pretty decent payday if/when they win.:)

Effin' Greg Monroe. No, not our Greg Monroe. The Hoya one.

Is the only way to put money on this to do it in person?

Likely a silly question, but I don't ever sports bet.

Yes - you can't call in a bet. But if you know anyone that is going to Vegas in the next 4 months, you can probably give them money to place the bet.

The whole system is insane! I cannot bet on my team unless I'm in some magical place called "Vegas," but I can spend my paycheck on lottery tickets or at one of those daily fantasy sites.
