Stephanie Grossi and Melissa Piacentini's early power play goals gave Syracuse a 2-0 advantage over No. 9 Mercyhurst, but a third period rally led the Lakers over the Orange in the final regular season contest between the teams this season.

After taking a 2-0 lead into the second intermission thanks to the play of the 'Cuse special teams, the Lakers rebounded for three power play goals of their own (two from Emily Janiga and one from Jenna Dingeldein) to up their CHA lead over the second-place Orange to 5 points.

Syracuse set the tone early, with a power play goal from Grossi less than three minutes into the game. Akane Hosoyamada and Jessica Sibley were credited with assists on the play.

The goal was the 21st point of the year for Grossi, which leads all CHA rookies.

Grossi's goal came as part of a 9-4 shots advantage through the first period.

Midway through the second, it was the 'Cuse special teams that struck again. Piacentini lit the lamp after passes from Hosoyamada and Nicole Renault set up the play.
It was Piacentini's seventh power play goal of the season, which ties for first in the nation in the category.

Janiga didn't wait long after the second intermission to pull the Lakers back within one, however. She found the back of the net just 14 seconds into the third period while the Orange was on the penalty kill.

She knotted things up near the seven minute mark by capitalizing on the first-of-two Orange penalties called in the period.

Dingeldein then scored on the other with 7:19 left to seal the win for the Lakers.

It was a physical contest in which the teams combined for 32 penalty minutes.

Goaltender Jenn Gilligan made 21 saves in the game, she's allowed just two even-strength goals in her last three games and made 84 saves in that span.

Syracuse will continue its road swing this weekend as the Orange take on RIT on Friday, Jan. 23 at 7 p.m.
