It came out in 1999, edited by a Syracuse Newspapers vet, Bob Snyder. I was looking through it the other day and I came across the March 29 1987 chapter, "A Title Shot For SU." This was a recap of the game where SU beat Providence to get to the Championship game.
And I quote:
"This was an SU team that shot below 50% from the field (45.3%) for the first time in this tournament."

Can you imagine having a team that always shoots 50%? Heck, I'd take the 45.3% shooting team.

That team was a real good, very efficient offensive team.

I remember that Providence game being very ugly. Got out to a good lead of 15 or so, then was tough the rest of the way. It was highlighted by a fight that would lead to arrests if it happened today.

I have that book and am working on some stats based on what's in the Media Guide. Those shooting percentages were not at all unusual in those days:

1985-86 .527
1986-87 .516
1987-88 .517
1988-89 .543
2013-14 .477

The offensive efficiency ratings, (points per possession):

1985-86 1.144
1986-87 1.144
1987-88 1.150
1988-89 1.169
2013-14 1.115, (higher than you'd think)

Points per game:
1985-86 83.6
1986-87 82.8
1987-88 84.7
1988-89 89.7
2013-14 62.0

Something tells me Steve will be author of the new book, Two Centuries of Memories.

I bet you could fill a library with all your notes and information.

It's mostly from, books like Bob's.

I'm curious how much the fast break factored into the shooting percentages. I'm curious how it will factor into next year's shooting percentages as well, being some of us are worried about the inexperience on both defense and set offense. Ok, I admit I like the break and actually gave a presentation on it in my freshman English class in high school many moons ago and may still be suffering from withdrawals for some time.
