- Because they are Notre Dame and we aren’t. Just compare the Notre Dame Victory march to “Down Down the Field”:

- Because they will have a higher-recruited athlete at every positon. Maybe some of their guys are over-rated and some of ours are under-rated. But 22 of them?

- Because they are a “wounded bear”: a team that was projected in the Top Ten and a possible national championship contender who has lost 3 of 4 games by a total of 14 points. They are going to be totally focused on this game to turn their season around and they need to claw us to do it.

- They’ve lost to Texas, Michigan State and Duke, all better teams that Syracuse. We’ve beaten two teams with inferior talent and lost to two teams with superior talent by a total of 59 points.

- Brian Kelly will figure out a way to stop #7. What else do we have?

- Hey, maybe we can trade touchdowns with them and kick a field goal at the end of the game to win 28-35!. Oops! Duke already did that.

- Maybe we can take advantage of their idiot defensive coordinator who can’t motive his players! Oops, they just fired him.

- Maybe if we make enough noise in the Carrier Dome, the Irish won’t be able to hear their signals and….Oops! The game isn’t in the Carrier Dome. It’s the last of four games against National powers the Good Doctor set up for the meadowlands to increase our “brand” – all of which we’ve lost.

- It will be the game that comes on right after Game Day and so a wonderful opportunity to show the Nation what Syracuse football is all about. Unfortunately, in past games where we had such an opportunity…we showed the nation what Syracuse football is all about.

I like Down the Field better. And I feel like you're drinking the Orange Kool Aid again because this is not as pro-opponent as usual!

A Midnight thought: This game will be all about efficiency. Neither team can stop the other: they will be marching up and down the field. The team that takes full advantage of their scoring opportunities and avoids penalties and turnovers the best will win. the other team will fall behind and be unable to catch up. Unfortunately, taking full advantage of opportunities has not been our forte.

In a low scoring game the pressure is on the defense not to allow a score because we may never get one to match it. In a high scoring game the pressure is on the offense to "hold serve": if one team scores twice in a row, the other team may never catch up. That's the kind of game this will be.
