We finally got around to seeing Wolf of Wall Street this weekend, and I was completely underwhelmed. I mean, it was a fun movie to watch once, but for some reason I just expected it to be a Scorcese classic like Goodfellas, Casino or Gangs of New York, and it just wasn't anyhere in the stratosphere of those movies in terms of depth of plot and character development.

I get it, they liked to do drugs and party - couldn't the movie have been 2 hours instead of 3? Why was it a Best Picture nominee?

I enjoyed the movie, but definitely wouldn't call it a classic. All of the major moments in the movie were glossed over/rushed, while scenes of them doing hookers or blow or both (usually both) would last 20 minutes.

I concur. Simply a retool of the Goodfellas formula; whereas Casino pulled this off (not expertly, but certainly enjoyable) Wolf just wasn't palatable. Jordan sounded so much like Henry I expected to see Ray Liotta walking us through half the scenes. Painful watch IMO. Took me a Gulden Draak 750 and two Ommegang dubbels to get through it - said consumption was IMO the only thing that made the 3+ hour screen time work.
