Class of 2016 WR/CB Earnest Edwards (NY) Joining Coaching Staff at UPrep Rochester

The good thing is that it wasnt just SU. 63 other P5 teams didnt go after him.
The problem is, if Syracuse doesn't show interest, then the out state teams think the player can't be worth their time. I think there are a good number of guys like him that would develop if they get the chance.

Your'e right, it scares teams away. NYS is over looked in general. We don't have a good enough reputation.

Aren't you working on that, at least for Section V?

When a guy gets recruited, they focus and train harder and get better. It's like a self fulfilling prophecy. UB has about 40 NY guys and they seem pretty good lately.

You weren't kidding about UB's roster. 38 NY kids.

money3189 I fully understand the gulf in talent between the MAC and the ACC. We've been getting under-rated players in the secondary from NC, SC, GA the last few years via camp offers. How much further along developmentally are these kids, compared to NYS? It can't just be a matter of athleticism.

No doubt kids get overlooked in NY but

pretty good for the MAC is not equal to our relative position in the ACC

All schools miss on guys. They just have to make sure it doesnt happen often. NYS is not known for being a hotbed so when someone does well outside the state it looks worse.

Been working on it for years a long with other coaches. Its hard to change the perception. We also need the higher ranked kids in NYS to get drafted and have sustained NFL careers.

Prospects like this are always interesting. It’s really a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation for the staff. Offer a kid that no other P5 has offer and isn’t at least a 3 star? Half the fan base is pissed. Don’t offer him and he goes on to be successful somewhere else? The other half of the fan base is pissed.
