If we were ever going to take a gamble on a sleeper recruit, why not take it on the Florida 100m Champion? Allegedly looking to take official soon.

Hard to argue with that speed

fast kid but going to have to get a heck of a lot stronger to play at this level. He is more fast than quick right now, but that should improve as his lower body develops.

At the risk of raising the ire of Jersey Orange (whatever happened to him ?), I would argue that straight- ahead 100 m dash speed does not translate to football speed.

Return man!! Him along with Bris... WOW!

Funny that the football/track star debate popped up today right before that FSU KO return.

FSU kid had game changing speed and used it.

Levonte "Kermit" Whitfield

PERSONAL: One of the fastest high school players in the nation, Whitfield has run a 4.37 40-yard dash, which is the fastest recorded among 2013 class athletes in the ESPN database...explosive player on the edge who easily separates from defenders...also excelled as a return specialist at Orlando Jones...caught 38 passes for 520 yards and four touchdowns as a senior, helping Jones reach the second round of the 4A state football playoffs in 2012...holds a 4-star ranking from ESPN, Rivals and 247 and a 3-star mark from Scout and PrepStar...he is the cousin of former FSU WR Marvin Bracy, who also ran track for the `Noles...like Bracy, Whitfield will also double up and run track for the Seminoles...Whitfield is the reigning Florida 3A state champion in the 100 and 200 and has a personal-best 100 time of 10.21...he also won the adidas Dream 100 race in New York last summer against the nation's top high school sprinters...committed to FSU in August 2012 and stayed firm, despite offers from Florida, Clemson, Miami, Ohio State, Texas A&M, South Carolina and West Virginia.

Athlete from FL with speed being recruited by McDonald. I'm sold.

Agreed.

Brisly Estime was a DB in high school. He's small. He was a true frosh. I don't think he's the best WR we've ever had here. But what he was is an athlete with speed, playmaking ability, and a ton of elusiveness. And despite all off the "criticisms" I list above, what a difference this kid made on our offense when he got comfortable around mid-season.

Again--not suggesting that he was Marvin Harrison. Just pointing out what a difference it made to our offense to have a "horse" -- even one as relatively "limited" as Estime for a variety of reasons [and I love the kid--not knocking him, just being realistic about some of his flaws at this stage of his developmental curve].

We'll know we've arrived when we have 4-5 playmakers like this on offense instead of just one. And luckily, our coaches seem to have things headed in the right direction on the recruiting trail.

Always take a chance on athletic kids with speed, and size. As long as the kids are willing to learn, good coaches will get the most out of them.

Watching FSU tonight just reminds us, while we are rightfully excited about our team, that they play the game at another speed. If we can get Jim Boeheim to convince this kid that Hawaii is just Syracuse with palm trees, then hopefully we bring this kid in, well worth a shot.

Josey's' 100M time in 3A was 10.98 I believe, which is far behind the 10.2 Whitfield ran. However, I would expect him to improve on that time his senior year. He just didn't show that burst in his film that Whitfield and even Estime show. Great speed, but he must improve that burst.

11 second hundred is pretty average and might not make states here in PA. 10.5 and below starts getting into elite territory and 10.2 is rediculous. I would think florida has quite a few faster kids.

His 13/14 season highlights don't look to bad. Might not be a bad kid to take a flyer on.

Speed plus agility and good hands puts a kid way up there and will get noticed. Can't teach any of those things but you can teach route running so. a fast kid with a brain is worth a shot anytime.

His Hudl highlight lists time of 9.85 in 100m and obviously that isn't 100% accurate so how about meeting in the middle with a 10.42 100m :p I did see a listing in an article saying that he did have a 4.41 laser timed 40 which is obviously moving.

He was 5th in his district championships. Didn't qualify for the state championships.

My opinion is that four commits (assuming Ishmael) is enough for one class. I'd rather take another flyer at a position of recruiting need, like D line (Carlin Clark).

Agreed. We are going to have a ridiculous number of receivers without this guy. We are not in a situation where we need to take a flyer on a wide receiver.
To me his game will be limited to just going long on deep routes anyway similar to Kobena. I know others seemed to be high on Kobena but from what I remember his highlights consisted of running away from guys or switching back to the other side of the field to run away from them in the other direction. That doesn't work in college. Didn't make a single person miss that I can remember. Not the best competition either as was pointed out earlier. I do like Josey's highlights a bit better than Kobenas but I was not too high on him.
