Good for his AAU coach. He may have given his kid bad advice, betrayed the family he promised he would have their best interests at heart but hey he got to back to back finals.

Pretty big groundless assumptions you are spewing.

Ohio State may luck into this one, assuming he wants to go now. I thought Oregon was an option for 2017 too. So glad we aren't still waiting on his decision.
What the heck can Ohio State offer him that Cuse couldn't deliver in spades? Opportunity? Exposure? Coaching? Great teammates? Great fans? Melon center? If he reclassified to 2017 for them he definitely screwed the pooch

the kid continues to get horrible guidance

What guidance is he getting and why is it horrible? I've seen a lot of posts how he has been getting people in his ear that are hurting him but I don't know any specifics that people are referencing. Can you share?

My understanding is that his AAU coach has considerable influence with him and is in his ear not to reclassify to 2017. Suggestion being that the coach is encouraging him to wait for blue blood offers and he is selfishly keeping him in 2018 so the coach can have Ayala for another AAU year.

Comparison I'd like to run past the board. Not that they are completely identical, but Ayala's game reminds me a LOT of Thorpe's. Very similar players, based upon the game tape.

Anybody else see that similarity?

That's what I thought it might be that people were referencing someone was telling him to stay in 2018 but I don't know why that's viewed as bad advice for him though. I've seen Ayala play up close in person and advising him that staying for another year and getting better in the prep scene instead of trying to get big minutes at a good P5 program next fall is IMO his best bet.

Thorpe is so much better than Ayala at this point it isn't even close.

Absolutely. But, they are far apart in age and experience as you eluded to. I was one of the many in the Thorpe camp over Ayala from day one.

Still, Ayala is a good player and wish him well wherever he goes. I feel bad that he has so many voices in his ear.

Glad to have Geno for a year, but if we lose out on Carey, then I would absolutely love to have Ayala. I assume that he probably isn't coming here, but we do need options, and he's obviously not a bad one.

He was beloved until it seemed that he will end up 2018, and doubtful to come here. Still a great prospect. Don't think he shoots as well as Thorpe, but he can run an offense with confidence, and makes plays. Nothing flashy, but gets it done. Rather have his type, an Edelin type, than a Kaleb type. Just generic comparisons. Carey is neither. Carey is Carey.

Sometimes kid just don't know what to do. A local kid has been offered a spot with the NJ Red Bulls residential academy. From there he can write his ticket to college, but he would miss his senior year of HS. Last I knew, he was still undecided.

Yes these really are significant decisions

I see it although it's hard because of the age of the two players being so far apart. The both kind of have an old man game in the sense that they both aren't elite blow by guys but find a crafty way to score and seem to use their bodies well to shield defenders. It's a tough decision for me to decide what I would prefer. 3-4 years of Ayala or 1 year of Thorpe with the possibility of landing Carey. I would lean towards the second because I have a good feeling about Carey for some reason. I could be off on my comparison because I don't remember watching Thorpe before college and I haven't seen much video in general on him so it's just a limited video watch general opinion.
