Honolulu (Hawaii) Iolani offensive lineman Jacob Isaia will be one of Hawaii's top prospects in the 2018 class.


Isaia is getting an early jump on recruiting and checking out schools.

The 6-3, 235-pound lineman visited Michigan State, Ohio State and UCLA earlier in the year and visited Washington over the weekend.

"It was great at Washington," said Isaia. "The campus was beautiful. It's right on the water and a great environment. The day was beautiful and a great day that really showed off the campus, the trees and the color. I really liked the environment."

On the field, Isaia said he liked what he saw from the Huskies.

"It was a good game for Washington," said Isaia. "It was senior day so there was a lot of excitement. I had a lot of fun."

Isaia got a tour from staff member DeAndre Goodwin and met with offensive line coach Chris Strausser and running backs coach Keith Bhonapha, who recruits Hawaii for the Huskies.

"I like the coaches at Washington a lot," said Isaia.

Isaia visited UCLA earlier in the season, checking out the Westwood campus and going to the Cal-UCLA game at the Rose Bowl.

The Bruins have been one of Isaia's childhood favorites, since his father, Sale Isaia, played for UCLA in the 1990's before going to the NFL.

In fact, one of Isaia's teammates with the New England Patriots was Bruin offensive line coach Adrian Klemm.

"I went up to UCLA and met with Coach Klemm and he's a really good guy," said Isaia. "They call him 'The Most Interesting Man in the World' and he really is. He told me that I'm on their radar and they want to watch me more."

It was the first time that Isaia got to visit his father's alma mater, and he said he loved what he saw.

"My dad always talked about UCLA growing up and how beautiful the campus is," said Isaia. "He had me talk to the people who were there when he was there at UCLA."

Isaia's other childhood favorite was Michigan State, where his mother went and his grandfather, Bob Apisa, played fullback for the Spartans.

"My mom went to Michigan State and my grandfather was an All-American and the first Polynesian to play at Michigan State, so that was a big school for my family growing up," said Isaia.

Isaia said he loved what he saw at Michigan State.

"They're having a really good year and it was cool to check them out because of my family ties there," said Isaia.

With the offseason coming up, Isaia said he plans to visit USC in January and then prep for the camp circuit in the spring, which he's scheduling a lot of opportunities to work out.

"I actually quit playing basketball so I can focus on working out for football but I'm still playing volleyball for my school and club," said Isaia. "I'm going to a lot of camps though. I'm going to the Maximum Exposure Camp, the B2G Camp, the All-Poly Camp, Sound Mind Sound Body, and then the Nike SPARQ Camps and the Nike Opening Regional."

Academically, Isaia has a 3.2 GPA and will take the SAT and ACT as a junior.

I would say they are pushing the "legacy" theory pretty hard on this kid. I bet the crystal ball reads pretty heavy on Michigan State right now.
