LM: Syracuse Catching Up After Mumps Outbreak

If you take the orange off this team, nobody would think twice about ranking them this low. I don’t think they are an overly talented group.

Marr or Petro

Got to be.

Feels like a lot of the comments that the Rival coaches have provided are fair. We are entering a season with a lot of unknowns.

Now that I think about it, probably not Petro he respects Desko to much. If not Marr maybe Breschi never got the feeling he was a big fan. Could always be an outlier like an assistant from Colgate or something.

Definitely feels like it could be Scott Marr.

Its a writeup , won't know impact of fall until games are played. Think the analysis and comments were fair and the inference was that staff develops players well which I believe to be true.

Whoever said it, are they wrong? Not at all. They have a couple of players that are really good, beyond that no one strikes fear in any opposing coach. Do you think any DC is game planning for Matt Lane or Ryan Simmons? The defense will be good but you have a d2 transfer or a
rook in the goal. Until the unproven players prove they can hang, its honest.

This was my biggest takeaway, also from the anonymous coach:

"The ACC is a vacant waste land when it comes to returning FO men, but word on the street is that the Orange have the best newbie in a transfer from Nazareth (Seth DeLisle)."

In today's game, you almost have to have a tandem, or "counterpunch" at the X. I was impressed with Varello in limited reps last year but DeLisle may be a key, as I'm not sure you can count on either True Frosh this year.

The article also seems to indicate a Solomon, Rehfuss, Bomberry attack. I agree with Jeremy & others that Bomberry is probably best suited for middy, ideally working against a shorty, but I'm just not confident that he & Voigt can co-exist in the top 6 because both are such similar off-ball finishers.

I love the two face off men idea as long as it is done like Maryland did it last year. Try them both and whichever one is doing better keep out there. But that has to be every game they both get a quarter, or else I feel like their confidence can be drained if they think they won't play if they have a bad game.
I also could not agree more Voigt just doesn't fit because Bomberry plays his spot. I do think he could slide in nicely next year and a part of me thinks Voigt is a better finisher than Bomberry, however I believe Bomberry is better at carrying the ball. Voigt has never looked confident unless he is in a catch and shoot scenario. But playing him on the crease next year he may have a 30-40 goal year.

Marr is the biggest ever.

"The thing about Syracuse is they always have guys who come out of nowhere. It’s their turn, and they’re guys who you’ve never heard of and will play great from the start. They’ve practiced against the first team, and the guy on the practice team suddenly is great. They’re always in the hunt.”

Says it all. We can discuss all we want, but really, we are just waiting to see who the next star is. As noted above, this staff develops talent and that is what will have to happen with this young team.
