Short documentary style video about Steven Clark, his injury/health and what he's doing now. I loved watching this kid play. He's an awesome person and his parents are really nice folks. I wish him nothing but the best and know he will do great things with his life. Always #CuseFamily

Former Syracuse DT Steven Clark DQ'd at Western Michigan due to clotting incident

It's amazing that he was disqualified for the same genetic disorder at two different schools and this is the takeaway. I'm no doctor but I don't think anything that happened at SU caused a blood clotting issue. I also don't think you can say that Dr. Tucker and SU were just trying to protect themselves when you're disqualified by another doctor/school for the same condition like eight months later.

"Because of how everything was handled back at Syracuse, there was still residual scarring that I had," Clark said in a phone interview on Thursday.

And in turn, he's more understanding of Syracuse head team physician Dr. James Tucker's decision to disqualify him last year.
"I think he did what's best for him and the University," Clark said, "just because they have to protect themselves, which is understandable. I don't blame them for that."

Very disappointed to hear this for Steven and his family. Kid was a helluva player and could have gone to the League.
On the flip side the SU Medical staff decision just got validated so I feel better about that ... I think

That quote about what Syracuse did is such BS

My total personal opinion:

The Clark family are sensationalists that are living far too vicariously through their son’ss Plight, and this story is overkill.

He’s done. Onward. Too much attention to it.

As much as it sucked for the player and the family I'm kinda over the whole situation

There is some acceptance but also some emotional overstatement in this, echoing the history of this whole issue. Steven's a good kid. He did his best at SU and helped the team. It's unfortunate about his medical condition. All that said, there are a lot of people in this world with physical limitations ... some far worse. The blame-game is not constructive. I say that with specific reference to the unnecessary and unwarranted disparagement of the SU doctor involved in his DSQ, who wound up being quite right. There was no shortage of SU fans who piled on the doctor. From the perspective of the parents, I'm sure it's difficult to process a sports-ending diagnosis for their son and communications could have been better. But it's not the end of the world. They still have him around to accomplish other things. Best for all involved to focus on Steven's coaching or other opportunities and let this go. BOL to him and his family.

he left out the part of the doc protecting him as well.

That was a fun conspiracy theory about Dr. Tucker while it lasted though, right guys?

I think it’s fair to say:

1. I don’t know much about medical stuff and it’s good to trust ppl who do
2. I don’t think Dr. Tucker and the process of disqualifying athletes is above reproach
3. The university should continue to evaluate this process as the appearance of disqualifying student athletes without good communication and seeming due process is hurtful to the program

Calling it a conspiracy theory is misleading. Some of the anecdotes shared here were outright shameful if true. I'm an over the top fan. What do you expect me to think and feel when I hear some of that stuff.

I'll be the first to admit that as I've learned more about some of the things going on in the background at the AD it's given me a different point of view and softened my criticisms. But no one is doing anyone else a service by just dismissing things out of hand, letting everyone else run with bad info, and then turning around and making fun of people not in the know.

Sorry Steven's career was cut short. He looked really promising before his disorder was diagnosed. I hope he gets his degree and has a great life.

bcubs9497 and anyone else in the Clark family, you are welcome to attend the Fine Mess tailgate for the WMU game.

It was never fun.

Hopefully people realize that if JW and DB continue to keep the Doc on staff then there is no problem.
i totally agree with this. i see the team doc much like i see my family doc. i expect him/her to monitor the health and complaints of myself, and expect him/her to get me to the necessary specialist when it is require.
by the way, my family doc is absolutely great. he still makes some house calls for i house bound patients. he is right out of the 1950's but medically right up to date.---he is also a seton hall FANATIC.

To try to learn both sides of the story and not make an ironclad judgement while only hearing one side, especially when that one side has a viewpoint that could potentially be biased?
Thanks Captain.

Didn't see this story covered by both Fox or MSNBC. Watched non-stop.

Another one flying first class on the Misleading Mischarachterization Express. Cheap flights, no parachutes.

I think it is also fair to say that:
1) there are (at least) two sides to every story
2) SU med staff were legally barred from telling their side of the story
3) Far too many people on this board treat parents as if they are unbiased truth tellers. Far too many people on this board hold strong opinions on law and medicine as if they were lawyers and doctors, when they in fact know very little about law and medicine.
