With Slayton off to the NFL our most glaring need in this cycle is a game ready DT. We will be woefull

This years need not sure why 17 populated.

2019 DT rotation should be Williams, Black, Harper, Ruff. Which seems ok. after that though it's very dicey as of now.

Agreed we really need a game ready juco or transfer.

They're probably taking another DT this cycle. Black will fill the Slayton role next year. All will be well.

It seems like we are recruiting the type of kids who can move “down a level” as they grow into their frames.

Aka, recruit taller linebackers who haven’t filled out yet and the ones that don’t make it as LBs grow into DEs in their years 3-5. Same deal with DEs growing into DTs in years 3-5 and safties into LBs etc...

The key is having the requisite frame to begin with. If you are a thinner but fast 6-0 kid recruited as a LBer in college, it’s hard to grow 60lbs into a DE, but a 6-3 kid with a good frame can.

EDIT... another key is being patient until they are in their 4th or 5th year

I’m not a big fan of Elmore moving to defense. I think he needs to stay at running back even if it is for 8-10 plays a game. Did he play defense in high school? If so, did he play DL? Does anyone else feel the same way?

High School: Played fullback and defensive tackle for Coach Troy McAllister … Ranked the No. 2 defensive tackle in Illinois and 46th nationally by Scout. … No. 83 defensive tackle in the Class of 2017, according to 247Sports.com’s composite rankings … 2016 Illinois Football Coaches Association (IFCA) Class 4A All-State selection … Named to the 2016 American Family Insurance All-USA Illinois First Team by USA Today … Also earned Chicago Sun-Times All-Public League First Team plaudits as a senior … PrepStar All-Midwest honoree … Carded 80 tackles, including 19 for a loss, and 14 sacks during his senior season … Logged 280 career tackles ... Holds the Illinois state record with 44 career sacks ... Member of the first Chicago public high school team to win an Illinois state championship, as Phillips went undefeated (14-0) to capture the 2016 IHSA Class 4A crown ... Two-time team captain.

If a dlinemen can play fullback he is good enough to play no or t on defense. Quick aNd explosive

Getting quality DL and OL's are to me like having two land masses and the bridge are the other players. If you ain't got land on the two sides there will be no where for the bridge to go. If Babers and staff continue to get these quality land masses the bases are being built for an exciting bridge that will last for a long time.

Robinson and Blissett would be an excellent way of building that base on the D side.

I saw him last week and he absolutely looks the part. Has noticeably added good weight.

Have made the comparison before and I'll make it again. Elmore is our version of Wake's Nikita Whitlock who used to beat the snot out of us as a 5' 11" DT. He then got a cup o' coffee in the NFL playing both DT and FB and is now in the CFL.

IMO, Elmore, at this stage, is better than Whitlock because he offers more size and versatility (Whitlock was a coverted 255 pound LB'er to DT).

And if the DT's are deep enough this season and we are lacking a FB, then again, IMO, in Dino I trust to allow the kid to have final say on these judgement calls. Similar to Stritzinger who came here, in part, because Dino told him he could play whatever position he wants. And now it looks like he'll get real burn in the Secondary this coming season. Not a bad return on "investment".

he also lost us the one game because he couldnt run over a DB from the 1.
