TCU, VT, BC and maybe some others will have a loss after today. Will Cuse wind up in the top 25?

ACC took one on the chin today with Wake's poor showing, BC getting thrashed by 0-3 Purdue and VT being upset by ODU. The league strength perception was surely affected. Now, only Clemson remains as a title contender, because no one can think of Syracuse as a really good football team just yet.

They absolutely will not be in the top 25 in the next poll. They beat whatis possibly the worst team in FBS. That won't move the needle a ton. They'll grab a handful of more votes, but there are way too many teams outside of the top 25 that are ranked ahead of Cuse that won yesterday. Right now they're ranked 41st in the AP, and 37th in the coaches. I'm guessing they move up to 35 in the AP, and 32 in the coaches.
Beat Clemson next week, and they will leapfrog about 15-20 teams, and be firmly in the poll.

Come on...UConn would beat Butgers by at least 4 TD's.

10 takeaways from an upset-heavy day of college football craziness

2. When the debate comes down to Duke, Syracuse and NC State, it’s usually a sign that basketball season is on the way. But in the ACC this year, there’s a theoretical debate on who could be a foil to Clemson in the beleaguered league: Who is No. 2 in the ACC?

Not Boston College. They laid a big enough egg to supply all of Boston with Sunday omelets, getting suffocated at previously winless Purdue, 30-13, on Saturday. Virginia Tech found itself on the business end of the biggest upset in college football this year, as ODU stunned the No. 10 Hokies, 49-35, on Saturday. Cross those two schools off the list.

The usual suspects are unusually bad this year. Florida State, even after a win against Northern Illinois, is still tracking historical infamy. Miami is still filled with unknowns, including at quarterback after Mark Richt finally appears to have replaced Malik Rosier with N’Kosi Perry, who starred (17-for-25 for 224 passing yards) in a victory over FIU. Louisville is completely inept on offense, which we cover in more detail later.

The only undefeated teams left in the league are Clemson, Duke, Syracuse and NC State. The Blue Devils thumped Northwestern on the road and have wins over Army and Baylor. Syracuse blasted Florida State at home, but still appear vulnerable defensively. NC State didn’t appear to lose a step after their game against West Virginia was canceled last week. State’s defense is still thought to be vulnerable, but it held up just fine in a 37-20 win at Marshall on Saturday.

Syracuse and NC State have the conference’s best non-Clemson quarterbacks (Eric Dungey and Ryan Finley) now that Duke’s Daniel Jones is out with an injury. As for the ACC answer: We’ll find out, as Clemson faces all three in the regular season.

Kentucky, Duke, Texas will go into the top 25 no doubt.

TCU, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Oregon will fall out for sure.
Oklahoma State will likely just stay in.

NC State will be above us. We should be close though. Probably around 27-32 range.

Duke goes into the top 25. Probably 22/23. I think there is an outside and I say a very small outside chance Syracuse or NC State slide into the 25. However, if they don’t, they will both be in that 26-32 range if I had to guess.

If CUSE keeps the Clemson game competitive and they lose next week they should still get in top 25. You never know what might happen in Clemson. Syracuse might #shocktheworld again next weekend!

Pollsters almost never reward a team after a loss no matter how close or what team beat them. If we have a close loss to Clemson, wins in the following 2-3 games will be what gets us ranked.

I get that making statements is an absolute fashion is how sports writers get clicks, but I can't agree with this take just yet. Last year Clemson lost to a 4-8 team and was in the playoff. It's too early to tell if BC just played a clunker or if Purdue exposed them. My hope is that both of us have either 0 or 1 conference loss going into our game. That would make this season real fun.

5-1* might get us ranked, and 6-1 gets us ranked.

*close loss

Rutgers is the worst team in FBS, UCONN would put 50 On them
