2018 Fall Ball Thread...

One other important note: we still have a FOGO issue.
Cuse was up 8-5 at half n held many first liners out in 2nd half. Phoup showed he is a good option when needed. Klan played well in 1sr. Voight, Refhuss, Lipka looked good

Scrimmages were not played in Franklin Stadium but side fields that were short n narrow . Not sure to what degree but it factors

Thanks for the updates Summit, much appreciated! Any sense if they were treating one of the scrimmages like a real game, say with a strict lineup? Or were guys getting cycled through pretty liberally? Did you get the sense that freshman (other than Cook) were in line to see real minutes this season? Also just curious who were running on the second midfield line? Sorry that's a lot but posters on this board seem to be our only source of info!

Only 6 weeks in, 19" practices/scrimmages to tell much more. Early morning weather was cold, windy and sun did not show until Syracuse was done for day. Short narrow field also restricted transition play for all teams so not best gauge but thought overall play was encouraging as bit sharper than expected given conditions .Orange kicked off day and played back to back games starting with Delaware at 9 am, that team is presently neither as strong or as deep a team as us. Sluggish start by Orange O but began to separate by end of 1q n we were clearly deeper team . Varello Phoup and Garlow dominated face-offs with clean wins though Upenn fogo had many clean ones moving forward in 2nd half. Voight impressed vs first liners in both games, good hands and quick release as Refhuss and others able to find him.. Cook scoring limited but skillset quite evident and rotation role likely.2nd line was Carlin, Quinn and either OSullivan or Buttermore, Osullivan left early with slight pull while Buttermore scored three times and the other two had some good moments. Quinn sees the field well. .Porter, Strang, Klan all saw and reacted to ball well. UPenn was a very good team playing their first game at 11. Believe Cuse was up 8-5 at half then called it a day for several primary players on both ends. It was the 1st contest for Penn and do not think their subbing was exactly the same. 13-11 UPenn by scrimmage end. Know UPenn approached second game differently, using bench extensively in loss to Hobart in their second game... Our 18 class is solid throughout but not sure where they factor in 19' season given our second layer of depth. Envision many rooks red shirting , they all played and contributed vs Delaware but were more limited vs Upenn. Kims to my eye have been most visible 18 mids in their runs to date . Believe DiPietro n Magnan were also held out due to mild strains and cold weather.

That report is much appreciated, laxsummit, thanks. About the only place you're going to find any lax news here in the Cuse which really is unbelievable. Cook and the Kims bring a lot for freshman, it's a big step from HS to D1 but it looks as if there's a lot of promise there. Thanks again for the report.

Welcome. Thought giving extended time to others in 2h against a good team was wise and productive. Staff already knows what it has in players like Refhuss , Solomon, Trimboli and Curry . On other end, Bomberry, Cunnigham, Kennedy, Fusco, Dearth and Dami were basically held out in 2h Helmer and Murphy shifted down to close D in 2h from ssdm which allowed other potential dm's good time to show their wares . Some scoring spurts by UPenn in 2h but thought most showed fairly

More pics on Laura insta including a picture of the very rarely seen in the wild dive shot! its back!

There was another dive by upenn where our goalie was heavily collided with and on the ground for several minutes. Penn was penalized . Dont like the reintroduction , someone is going to get badly hurt. Orange did not attempt any dives but we scored several around crease

Nice to finally have a write up from one of the media outlets. Overall sounds encouraging (though I guess all of these pieces are meant to sound encouraging). But it's good to hear about Owen Seebold standing out (think he's been forgotten this offseason) and Desko sounds like he has been pleased with the play of the defensive midfield.

I am getting the sense that Voigt is solidifying himself as the third starting attackman. Still expecting a rotation of some sort but seems like Voigt is doing all the right things.

To me, Voight requires an overactive sliding defense to open space for him. Unless Solomon and Rehfuss and/or one of the middies can draw a slide, he will remain a limited offensive player. He's a Keogh like attack but Keogh had a few exceptional attacks to move the defense around. I am very skeptical of this year's team despite respecting the thinking of the astute posters on this forum who sound optimistic. I do expect a slightly better defense. Bomberry may be healthy. The ssdms have some experience. LSMs are pretty good. Goalie: who knows. A pretty good first middie line will score goals. Beyond those assets, meh. Attack recruits seem to be scurrying for the hills. SU will suffer for some time without top line attack recruits

Galloway will be on the hill in the next two years and then we will see a resurgence of interest in the program

Which part? Galloway coming or the resurgence? Or both?

Galloway is likely the next coach here but I dont see it happening in the next two years. More like 4-5
