Etan thinks Zion should quit playing for Duke

He’s not wrong, but this is some ESPN First Take level shenanigans. Maybe I expect more from Etan than to post the most cliche tweet ever about the two lowest hanging pieces of fruit in CBB (paying players + Zion). Couldn’t figure out how to work Adidas in there for the trifecta?

Yeah. No. It’s the NBA players association.
Technically it's the collective bargaining agreement between the players and the nba. I just meant the nba (and it's pa) came up with those rules as opposed to the ncaa.

I don't like it and never did. Let them in out of high school or deal with all these shenanigans. It's ruining college hoops. The NCAA has to do something. Maybe start paying the players (that's a novel idea).

Got it...my point was the PA would never go for the 3 years deal.

If he leaves Duke before end of season, he would forfeit his chance to win the ultimate basketball trifecta ... NCAA, NBA and Olympic championships. (Of course, there is no guarantee he will win an NCAA championship at Duke this year, but if he leaves early this year, he has no chance).

Actually, it is one of my favorite trivia questions. Only seven players have won it.

Players who have won NCAA, NBA and Olympic Titles

I wonder if they would agree to two years if straight out of high school was accepted. That would be so awesome. No more one and done.

You wouldn't think it was that rare but it might never happen again. It's been 36 years since MJ won at UNC.

It’s the system now, and I can’t wait for the CBA to change. I look forward to watching players develop again(especially for Cuse).

Etan is wrong here...he should keep playing...and I don’t think he’s a lock at #1. If I’m an NBA exec, I consider it because he’ll keep butts in the seats, but Barrett is a better player.

That's been proposed --forget by whom--in a bigger forum and it would be crazy not to buy into it.

College hoops has been seriously damaged by the one-and-done nonsense.

Allow those who are good enough go go directly into the NBA/minors.

And then two-year minimum for everyone else

The Syracuse homers and orange-goggled brigade aren’t going to like this but:

I don’t necessarily disagree with Etan. I want to savor this kid in college, though. It’s a joy watching this dude ball. His intangibles aside from the regaular skills he brings is something maybe only LBJ and he have brought to the game in quite some time. I mean people don’t realize he has 20 blocks and the whole SU team has 37. He’s averaging big time numbers on an already loaded team. Even Kevin Durant recently said he’s a “once a generation athlete.”

Sobe, it’s funny what you perceive to be “homers and orange-colored”. It reminded me of one of the times Etan had some other former SU stars on his show. They referred to the disgruntled fans as wearing orange-colored glasses, hyper-focused and hypercritical of their team, always complaining.

But anyway, I do share your sentiment regarding Zion. He’s talented beyond belief and he plays hard. I wonder if he’ll have the same impact in the NBA as some of the other greats.

I think Etan was just making a point about the hypocrisy of the money making machine that is college basketball. And Zion is the most insanely talented and most popular. Do you guys notice that when espn announced the upcoming Duke game they kept saying the other school by name only against “Zion Williamson and Duke”. The dude is making a lot of money for people other than himself.

In a related story, Carmelo quits the NBA and goes to Duke.

My favorite trivia question is much easier. Who are the only two basketball players to earn over 100 million dollars in their career, an NCAA and an NBA Championship?

One is obvious. The other, not so much.

It’s one thing for football players in the trenches who collide heads blocking or rushing the passer. Or running blocks wanting to reduce wear and tear but basketball players play.
We all know the college players don’t get enough for their services but Etan is totally wrong on this one.
If the players wanted to force change the best way would if the players on the Final Four teams got together before the Final Four games and pledged to boycott unless they got some concessions from the NCAA.

What he said is not wrong. Williamson does not need to play anymore this year to be the number 1 pick in next year's draft. He isn't going to improve his draft or contract position by continuing to play. The point is that if Williamson's goal is to play professionally and earn as much as possible, continuing to play for Duke probably doesn't advance that goal and only places it in peril. It may not be a huge risk, but it's a risk.

The current system is stupid. Players that want to play in college and pursue an education shouldn't be paid, players that want to play professionally should do that immediately upon graduation from High School....even earlier if they are able.

Etan should take up the mantle of getting the next NBA collective bargaining agreement to do away with the rule that prevents a kid from being draft eligible until they're a year removed from high school graduation.

My guess without looking if he got to 100 million earning is Richard Jefferson.
Didn’t he win a title at Arizona and I know he got one with the Cavs. Nets gave a max contract so he has to be close.

Jordan and...
??

Zion ain’t Lebron . These comparisons are insane

Zion will likely make more in salary if he is a generational NBA player, as salaries are higher now. Lebron has nearly always made the max (Miami excepted). If Zion is what he appears to be, his endorsements will also put him over the top.
