Class of 2019 DE Smith Vilbert (NJ) Committed to PSU

The challenge with NJ is that it has been a PSU recruiting hotbed for a long time. A lot of the HS coaches have PSU ties. We’ve seen this time and again when we recruit the state and it’s always going to be an issue unfortunately.

I don’t think many are surprised as they are angry that Penn state walks all over us for recruits. I yearn for the day we have our call for recruits in the NE
 
PSU embarrassed Pitt at Pitt this year. Pitt embarrassed us at Pitt this year. Pretty sure Franklin thinks Syracuse is some kind of joke.

My thing is w take a 3* kid and he may be a stud next year. Then we get a 4* kid and make him an animal. Both Sr coming up. Why don’t these kids see this. Why would anyone let there kid go there. Seriously. Anywhere but there. All that talent and we did better. Ok let’s prove them wrong. Blows my mind but been touching a few captains so sorry. Still hate ped state.
 
Especially as we continue to be good (or better than good) and stay relevant, we're going to lose more recruiting battles because we're going to be in battles with bigger programs more often from here on out. Hopefully. So it is what it is, I'm personally not too bothered by it.

However, PSU is still a scumbag institution. Had any other "business" or organization in America had the level of covering up of crimes that PSU had, they would have faced very harsh punishments. Well... I guess there's one other institution that has largely escaped harsh punishments for years of abuse but that's getting things sidetracked.

So for that I just hate PSU in general but I'm not going to get too worked up about losing recruits to PSU. It's not going to change drastically, at least no time in the near future, that PSU and ND have a recruiting advantage over us and have the ability to take who they want from us.

Threatened by us? I think it's more that he's an excellent closer and seals the deal when these kids are on campus. It's hard to argue with 100k fans in the stadium every weekend. We'll be fine, there's other solid DE options on the board.

Its not that hard to close when you have what he has to offer. You could even close them Bnoro if you were coaching.;)
 
I'd like to know how much money gets thrown around at recruits. Are we so naive to think it only happens in basketball? It's bizarre to me that there's hardly any discussion of it.

Are there other qualities that can embarrass beyond the score? This was a game we went up 14-0 in the first 2 drives of the game. By the end there was something pathetic about knowing, everyone knew they were just going to keep running it. Just mean, physically brutal, we're going to smash you and there's nothing you can do.

I was there. And it was no fun. And yes, I was embarrassed.

I still say bye end of year it woulda been different with our lb s coming downhill. That game still pissseeeeeessssssss me off on how ward didn’t fix it sooner. We were clearly a better team with bad defensive calls. Kills me.
 
I know people are going to hate this but if you get a chance you really need to go to a home Penn State game. The atmposhere is insane and tailgating is above average.
When you get a kid to come into a stadium with 100k ppl it's pretty hard to compete with that...
