Uconn in big trouble

so what is next - drop down in football and join the BE? They don't really have a lot of options.
if it was a private school, that would already be done. but it's a state school & the politics behind their football program prevent it . . . so far

The CT AG Blumenthal --- now Senator --- led that charge and left the University with the consequences.

It's sort of like filing a lawsuit against your neighbors and then wondering why you are getting the cold shoulder at the block party.

Lots of politics played in ACC conference expansion. Rehash of governor Warner of Virginia and his power play that worked. Reminder of the possible political complications and influences when discussing the NCAA and public universities too.

Pre-season fundraiser:

Women’s hoops versus men’s in outdoor game at the Rent.

Women start up 50. Only the winner survives as a program.

Who ya got?
Men win a 40 minute basketball game, starting down 50

It’s one thing for the Governor of a State to pressure one school to help another.

But Universities suing other Universities just has never happened. The University people I know at JHU were aghast when they heard about it. UConn’s exclusion from expansion demonstrates how significant and how foolish it was as an act.

It was a silly lawsuit that cost verybody a fortune in legal fees. The lawyers were the only one that benefitted from it. I wouldn’t be surprised if there weren’t some very big sail boats named “Expansion”floating around in the Caribbean.

I guess this means they won't be starting an MLax team even though their stadium is being used for the NCAA championships in a couple of years.

the penalties they have self-imposed are a transparent joke. on their face they imply very minor infractions, unworthy of firing a title winning coach, especially when compared to what they allowed to skate under calhoun. and i think ollie's attorneys will make the exact same argument in their racial discrimination claim.

ko is going to get what he is owed; uconn better hope they don't get punitive damages piled on top.

Weirdest championship venue of all time. Zero sense.

I know we have the Rutgers dumpster fire thread, but UConn is getting very close to earning its own dedicated equivalent.

Congrats Huskies. I really didn’t think that was possible.

Many people here didn't like Dr Gross, but he made the right choice and... I don't want to say he "saved" SU by getting us into the ACC, but he sure as hell kept us away from anything near what UConn is going through right now.

UConn should convert their basketball arena to be used for equestrian shows and farm animal award events, i.e. best cow, pig in show etc.. Could also be used for flea markets or graduation ceremonies. Help chip away at the $41 million.

Yeah I don't see how that didnt have an impact on their prospects to join the ACC. And they were an actual attractive athletic program back then. Now Uconn is coming off back to back losing seasons (and maybe a third on the way) in basketball and a football program that's a national laughingstock. So not sure how you come back from that.
Lawsuit or not, UConn was never headed to the ACC. The lawsuit excuse is a crutch, but it doesn’t/didn’t really matter.

No, when UConn filed the suit along with the other Big East schools, they were not being considered for the ACC. They were just trying to stop, impede or delay the other schools from leaving.

But later on, their involvement in the suit did hurt their chances. This was all very well covered in the Press.
