“This is Year 1 with our new group....Then we’ll get to Year 2. Then we’ll get to Year 3. Then it won’t look like there’s paint drying because right now it looks slow to me, but we’ll get it right.”

My apologies if this was already discussed, but W...T...F.....

Year 1? What happened to consistently good? Are we now supposed to understand that we only get good teams every 3 years under Dino's watch? I don't like this comment from him, not one bit. We should be building towards sustained success, not a 3 year roller coaster ride that we can't get off of.

I like Dino a lot. But it is apparent to me that he is very thin skinned. This is his team. And quite frankly, it's the first time that he has ever coached just his kids.

I don’t think that’s what he means, just the FB is cyclical and there will be ups and downs as we know. He is thinner skinned I noticed that with the reporter pushing him on TD and not pulling him during WM. It was obvious what was being asked but he wanted the guy to look bad for asking the question.

I wouldn’t read much into what he’s saying, I, for one, never thought there wouldn’t be good and bad, or mediocre, years.

I mean if youre not a powerhouse, havent we always ebbed and flowed good and bad? Ideally maintaining consistency is ideal but historically have never done it
Unless consistency being terrible with grob counts

I've reached the conclusion that we may not ever be a program that can follow up a great year with another. For us to have a great season we need senior leadership and parts to come together. That happened last year.

I can see us winning anywhere from 0-4 more games. And Dino will have to do some work if we don't get to 5 wins. That to me is an acceptable, if disappointing, backslide after a great season. Look at WSU and Kentucky this year for a comparison.
We need to show improvement next year, back to 7+ wins.

Dino has never been anywhere long enough to see if he can sustain what he does. He’s shown to me after four years he can’t recruit top talent. He finds good athletes to play his system, but not great football players. Great football players consistently make great plays.

I'm confused, hes been here 4 years? How is this year 1? At a minimum, if going by his recruiting classes which is what I'm guessing he's gauging this by, wouldn't this be year 3 or at very worst year 2 with a very very large complement his players? I'm honestly confused at what he is trying to say here

I am, as well. We played faster and moved the ball better in the true year 1 - where everybody was in their actual first year in the system.

This is not unique to us. Outside of your playoff contender type, replacing a good QB + the churn of recruiting and development? Sometimes it’s two steps back while they find their footing. NC State is going through the same thing. Wake last year.

Wake last year and NC State this year weren’t preseason top 25 teams though.

Most people thought we’d be good. This season has been tough to take.

I think you’re “missing” the point that the 4th year offense with an offensive guru shouldn’t be running at a crazy slow pace compared to the first year the coach showed up.

Senior QB to a Sophmore QB is a huge change regardless of who is coaching them. The coaches don't play the games.

Dino is a great guy - like other coaches, he says things. Not every “in games 4 - 6” or ‘in year 4” is a fixed promise. Why should year 4 be as smooth as year 3, given the changes in personnel?
In fact, we have a new QB, TE, #1 receiver, two new OTs, and a new OG. Most have been with the program, but not starters. It is reality — this new group has to find itself.

True senior QB who was injured for large chunks of time (4 years in college football, 3 under Babers) to redshirt sophomore QB who has been at least upright and "healthy" (3 years in college football, 3 under Babers).

He may not have had as many snaps but I'm sick of this excuse. DeVito needs to be much better than he is. OL isn't helping but he's doing nobody any favors, either.

OK.

What is your alternative explanation?
That we had a well rounded team at a time when our conference was down and we were able to leverage elite special teams into consistently favorable field position for us and unfavorable field position for opponents, an opportunistic defense good at forcing turnovers and getting off the field on 3rd down, and the most explosive offense our program has seen in decades, with a surprising number of players perform far above their recruiting rankings in all three phases of the game and this collection produced a ten win season.
