Changing of the guard?

Jg3 gives us scoring never misses a ft. In a tight game coming down to fats hes valuable

They both gotta play. No reason to play some of our guys 30+. JB gotta figure out his bench and how to play more then 5 guys. We will need each guys skillset at some point and JG3 will have games where he can light it up. Washington looked excellent running point but that's not suprising considering hes the only true pg on the roster.
Exactly right.

Agreed. Ive been skeptical of Washington from the jump. His weaknesses (slow and unathletic) are exactly what we’ve been complaining about with this team and feed into those overall problems/weaknesses. That’s why I’ve been hoping Carey (pre-injury) or Goodine would start figuring it out. Who knows, maybe Washington can help stanch the bleeding this season (until Girard or Goodine can make some progress) because he is a natural PG, knows what JB wants, and knows our system.
Didn't look slow at all to me today. Pushed the ball at the right time, and his slides and adjustments on D are faster than anyone except maybe Goodine. He's more athletic than Buddy or Joe.

He doesn't have the offensive game but has the same demeanor and court vision as a Tyler Ennis. Washington's biggest weakness is when he gets trapped in the press. This is the only time you really see him look uncomfortable. That can be worked on through more minutes.

The one thing Washington does better than anyone else is he moves the ball quickly. If a man is open in scoring position he is getting the ball . Or if he is a hockey assist away same thing. Washington also feeds the post and plays the pick and roll very well.

Yeah, he got bailed out with a foul on one press today that I thought he was a bit nonchalant, but he also needs a bit more help. Goodine didn't know where to be, or to come to the ball and help.

Howard Washington looked REALLY good today.

At the very least, it suggests that Girard is going to get a much shorter leash. Not throwing Girard under the bus -- but the offense seemed to run better with Washington at the helm.

Trend or flash in the pan?
In the post-game press conference, JB mentioned a travel call against Girard. From the context of his remarks, he seemed to be saying that he thought it was happening too much, or maybe that he was turning the ball over too much. It seemed like JB was sending a message to Girard by giving him the hook.

Let's hope it's a trend. HW is the one true PG on the team, he has good instincts, and the offense usually seems more fluid when he is triggering ball movement.

JG's skill set is much better suited being off the ball, but he is doing a decent job at PG. I'm sure JB wants his scoring potential on the floor and I have no problem with that. JG's leaning curve is significant, not the least of which is trying to adjust to being more of a distributor and initiator on offense.

Even so, I hope HW continues to get minutes every game.

Washington played very well and he will only get better. He has a solid handle, good vision and he is a good not great shooter. He is the only true point on the team and it shows.
I expect him to get a solid 10 or more meaningful minutes a game going forward.

I'm hopeful that Boeheim is figuring out that Girard and Buddy are getting too many minutes and it's affecting their ability to hit shots, and he realizes that between Washington and Goodine he's got to figure out which is playing better so they can provide relief every game.

Cool, sample size of 1. That seals it. Point made. Case closed. Mic dropped.

Let’s see how he does against a team that has guards that can actually apply even a tiny modicum of ball pressure to the ball handler .. what we saw Today looked good but I doubt he’d have looked like this bringing it up against that tank from ok state

Eh. I mean, better to see a guy play well against somebody than nobody.

I’m pumping the brakes on HW. Tech looked like a hot mess today so I need to see more to be convinced. He also needs to knock down the open jump shots he gets.

Howard is a legit PG.Girard is not.

Girard is a better player, but the one position is so vital on the court.

Will be fascinating to see how future minutes get dispersed.

wrong again. It means brycen might not get much time going forward, which will give him more time to develop without the pressure.

Washington's play made me think of Lazarus Sims today.

That's a really good thing.

He should absolutely be in the 3-man guard rotation going forward at the very least.

I'd love to see an actual rotation. Give Joe and Buddy equal time to rest. Let Joe slide over to the 2 from time to time. Can only help.
