Biggest Need...

The kid at Penn St. is a 5th year senior. When rebounding against a guy who is bigger and stronger you basically have to face guard him so neither one of you get the rebound. Sidibe did a little of that in the second half and Guerrier was able to get a few of those boards.

We will need to gang rebound going forward. Start Guerrier and move Hughes to the point it adds a rebounder.

Guerrier has to play as much as possible. Lots of growing pains but he is the one real athlete/rebounder we have. Marek getting 35+ minutes isn't going to work against any half decent P5 team. As bad as he was last year at times, Oshae would have been a huge help on this squad.

Same reason Wes Johnson left after only 1 year.
What more will he have to prove to the NBA?
Wes left because he was a lottery pick and coming back was pointless as he was in his 4th year post HS.

If Elijah is a first round pick he is gonzo but I don't think he would leave just because he has nothing to prove.
I don't see him as a first round pick yet if he plays like he did Saturday for half a season okay.

Hughes game is like Demetrius Nichols. Nichols didn't leave early.

Someone is leaving the program ... because I don't think the NCAA gives out waivers to have 14 scholarship players. Your likely candidates are Hughes, Carey, or Braswell.

Buddy becomes a walkon. JB gets a 250k raise to coach next year. Problem solved. JB gets extra money, he can pay for Buddy and nobody has to leave.

LOL. Keep fantasizing.
So we will let a player walk rather than do what allows the team to have an extra good player as a walkon?
Why? It’s not about Buddy not being good enough either. It’s about maximizing the roster for talent to develop and stay.

We are wasting a year on JBA this year. Unless he contributes as a RS Sr. The fact he will still have 4 years of eligibility this year doesn’t help.

I'm not saying that it's what I would do, but just how it's going to happen. Buddy is on scholarship and I would bet confidently that he's not coming off.

ETA, Also it's not a coincidence that SU only took two players this cycle and one is a prototypical SG/SF wing-type player.

It's not going to happen. His ego will never allow something that makes sense to make his son not have a scholarship.

Richmond?

Richmond?
Yep. "Syracuse likely will play him at shooting guard and small forward."

And Buddy has SG on lockdown. I'm not guaranteeing Hughes is gone, but someone is, and Hughes is, currently, one of the top players in the ACC. It'll be interesting to see how the conference slate plays out and where he ends up - he's going to get a look as a possible pro.

Thanks for the link, Fly!

I'm sure I'm in the minority here, but I see Richmond as much better fit at PG in JB's system. His ability to beat his man with a crossover going left or right (and finishing at the rim) is a skill set we don't have currently. That ability along with his handle and passing should play well with the shooters we have.

Playing him at SF will be similar to playing Carey at PG, IMO.

I think the biggest need is without question a PG who can get to the rim, and who we can trust with the ball in their hands, just as it has been for years. We continue to miss on these targets, and this year the problem is at its ugliest.

A serviceable big man would be wonderful, and our inability to obtain one is really beyond belief. It is not hard to find a halfway decent big for the college game. That being said, I'd much rather have a good PG than a good big. PG should be the priority. Carey was supposed to be that guy, I was really counting on him making a leap this year.

Without guards capable of breaking their man down, we're going to continue floundering in offensive purgatory.

We are a 3 point shooting team now, That's why the shooters are getting the PT and we are up at the top of the NCAA in 3 point attempts. It's an entirely new offensive approach. for the record, I stated that when they landed JG3. Why would you need another 3 point shooter at point guard when we already have Buddy and 3li? Boeheim's reinventing the whole thing and none of you guys can see it. We scored 97 points twice this year and I think that is a sign of how the season will play out.

Hughes is a much better prospect than Battle. I could see him in the first round.
