people are too down on TD

That's fair. But did you see members of the OL getting a strong push, or opening running lanes? The bare minimum is not getting blown up more than the odd time in pass blocking. Next, can they hold the pocket. Next, can they get a push.
I saw 2 plays in which our RB missed the proper cutting lane where there was a hole.. on 1 play i believe i saw HCDB actually run onto the field after the play telling his RB about it..wasnt real happy.. the second 1 might have cost us a TD as it was in the red zone... Jordan tries to bounce everything outside.. its his experience level i believe as i think he has decent vision according to the plays i have seen.. in HS you can bounce everything outside when you are the best/quickest/fastest player on the field.. D1 ball does not allow that for 99% of players... There are multiple issues across the board with the O right now.. no Spring most prob contributed.. but its important to note we are still very young on the O side of the ball in general.. and shows on tape all over the place on every O position group in game 1. Important to note I am not saying certain players just have to play better... thats obvious... But whats just as obvious on tape after week 1 is that our issues are the O group as a whole... NONE of the position groups are playing well and the multiple issues combined are making us a bad Offensive team right now

Devito actually is our best runner on offense. But, the entire offense is the problem, from QB to OC. Some groups are more critical to the success, but it takes 11 guys (alright, maybe in college you can get by with less if the OL is solid and you have one other great player) doing their individual jobs in sync to be functional as a unit.
TD needs to be a lot better throwing the football and making his reads.
The OL needs to be a lot better. Enough said there.
The RBs need to run harder and at least make an attempt at picking up a blitz.
The WRs need to run better routes and get more physical going for the ball. I'm still wondering how Taj let a perfectly thrown deep ball bounce off his helmet without getting a hand anywhere near it. The little contact from the db wasn't enough to prevent an attempt to catch it. Queeley needs to line up on the right sideline (kidding) so that TD will look at him.
The TEs need to just run seam routes every once in a while even if they're not supposed to just to tell everyone, "hey, they can't cover us! Throw us a damn pass").
Either queeley, Hendricks,Barron or any other wr on the right. Taj is use to the left side. Played there all last season. If he is TD favorite target it will force him to look left and at the center of the field.

A good coach needs to scheme according to his players strengths. Running an RPO with a QB who is a pocket passer, a patch work OL and an RB who weighs 185 dripping wet against a solid Dline and LB crew isnt using your head.
Or give others an opportunity to see how they play in game situations in the system. Why would you change the system to change it back after TD leaves?

Well we are in the Pittsburgh game and he has been replaced and all of a sudden we score a touchdown. Listen I don’t know what’s up with this kid he has all the tools but somethings going on something is wrong so he needs to replaced, it is what it is! I feel bad for the kid, maybe it was the pressure that everybody put on him expecting him to be the next Dungee, I don’t know. But at this point he’s not getting it done so he needs to be replaced Till he can maybe figure it out and practice and maybe get this thing going.

Personally I've seen enough. He looks lost out there. Holding the ball, lock in on 1 receiver. This performance has been putrid.

I think we can put this thread to bed. Tommy sucks. He sucked last year and he's gotten worse this year. He's scared in the pocket, and to an extent I don't blame him but there are times where he drops his head and doesn't see open receivers.

More importantly I think Harris can't f****** stand him. Some of the cut aways to him after DeVito gets sacked Harris looks so pissed. Harris is the only one talented enough to score in this offense apparently.

I think very few on here really understand the offense. I dont many here every played QB and most in here are old enough that none of this style of offense even existed back in our day.. Sure he made some bad plays/throws. But as Dino says lost of things have to go right for a play to work. if the first read is Wide and its covered and the 2nd read is inside and that guy runs the wrong route the QB ends up looking pretty lost.

We as a group also fail to understand the reads are in a pre-determined order based on the play and the D and the down/distance.. Its not as simple hey that guy is more open throw it to him . Maybe the offense has a play and the D is in man look. That tells the first look to be the X running a slant, but the D was hiding some coverage so that look is not good post snap. So they he comes off it to the check down but they cover that too or he runs the wrong route and now he wants his 3rd read but the oline has missed something and the play has broken down.

we have issues in lots of places. there were 3-4 throws made where WRs ran to the wrong spot, we had several bad throws, we had 3-4 drops, we had 3-4-5 bad protections.. We had 2-3 good protections where the RBs missed blocks. And I am sure we had multiple bad reads by the QB..

Disagree that people are being too hard on TD

I will look at results and that measuring stick is not good for DeVito. Then again some coaching decisions leave me scratching my head. I guess we’re a MAC team. Getting old both me and watching loses.

one of my favorite things about Dungey that drove me nuts as well is how aggressive he was. He would throw his receivers open. Especially on the deep ball. This offense needs that. Without it we just have no identity and it allows coaches to stack the box.
Culpepper isn’t the guy, Devito plays too tight for me. Doesn’t take chances and this is an offense that just needs to take more risk.

Rex blew his chance. Can't miss guys by that much and hit an OL when you have plenty of time and a wide open guy on 1st down. Not sure why he sidearmed everything.

Next years starter is likely not on the roster. Probably at transfer. So I guess next week I give Tommy reps and I give the best freshman in practice a 1st half series or two.

That’s a tough scenario. We don’t exactly have the best sales pitch to a grad transfer at this time.

So Rex gets, what, two drives and he blew his chance. How many does Devito get before he blows his?

I hope TD learned something at the end. Rex couldn't hit anything, but the quick throws he went for were wide open without the need to hold the ball and take a hit. TD could have definitely completed those passes but he just doesn't SEE them.

He got moved to TE by THIS coaching staff. Hes not an option. Definitely should have reentered the game sooner though.

And then moved back. I'm not saying he is a great qb. Right now it doesn't look like we have one of those. But at least he doesn't look like a deer staring into headlights.

Not really trying to defend Tommy because there's not much to defend but I wonder if the defense was just trying to keep everything in front of them after Rex hit that TD.

I think TD can watch film and know exactly what needs to happen. I think it's different for him at game speed. It's not an intelligence issue. I can say I've always been the same way when playing sports (just less physically gifted). I used to think too much and was not as instinctual. It's just the way people are wired.

I've been critical of TD for it, but not because I think he doesn't try or want to do better. It just is what it is.

Rex other than his 1 throw showed why he is not the QB..

We don't have a QB. I rather have the QB who got lucky with a TD than the QB who played two games and led us to 9 points on the year. You aren't winning either way but at least you scored a friggen TD. If Rex plays liek a broken clock we score 2 TDs a game. That is a vast improvement.
