Nice job by Lenoir Rhyne taking the top spot from Tampa, LR had a great season

The South Atlantic Conference took the top two seeds in the South. Limestone finishing 4th in that conference shows you their depth.

Lenoir Rhyne got shafted having to potentially face Tampa in the quarters, while Wingate gets the #2 seed and faces Indy. I would have liked to see a LR/Tampa semi.

I watched a couple of dozen or more SAC games this season because my kid is headed to that conference in the fall, and I only saw LeMoyne play once (StRose) so I really don’t have a good handle on the strength of the NE10 this season. I’m a Phin alum and know how strong the NE10 is but man I was really impressed with those teams in the SAC. Hate to make predictions because the North is so good but I really like the champ to come out of the South bracket.

I think it’s absurd there are 71 division 2 schools and only a 10 team tournament.

Your observations may be exactly why Feldman has Lemoyne 6th in his power rankings headed into the tourney. Those southern teams might be a notch above this year. Will be fun to watch.

Going to be a great tournament and fun.

The South played full schedules to for the most part, including out of conference games, where as the NE10 just played within conference. Tough to measure how good you are. It’s the same as we saw with Maryland getting a 3.

Belmont Abbey got a bit shafted being left out at 10-4 (and beating Mt Olive to win the conference championship), but they went 1-3 against the SAC. They finished #12.

I used to sort of scoff at the South but when my kid was being recruited I did a deep dive on all the rosters down there and it’s a who’s who of Northern HS kids and Canadians and top Southern/Western high schools, plus D1 and top school D2 transfers, then I watched a million south team games this season. These teams can really ball out. LR for example has 20 kids from NY, NJ, CT, PA, MD and Canada.

Can we talk for a minute about how the Le Moyne women got screwed worse than any college team I've ever seen?

Yeah ever! It makes zero sense, and it's a disgrace!

BUT...(without ruining the thread for politics) it's really unfortunate that NY and the northern schools were so paranoid about their little pandemic bubbles. There was zero reason to not at least play full conference schedules and at a minimum OOC games within New York. LeMoyne could have played games against both Roberts Wesleyan (Rochester) and Mercy (Dobbs Ferry).

It's not like they didn't play any good teams though, so in the end that should not have mattered.

Did they? What's the women's poll look like and who'd they play ?

They had wins over the following ranked opponents (showing the final coaches poll ranking):

#11 Adelphi (2x)
#19 Pace (2x)
#20 New Haven (3x)

7-1 against the Top 25.

Mercy beat one ranked team the entire season: #15 Roberts Wesleyan, who they also lost to twice!! And they somehow get a 2 seed in Le Moyne's region? Absolutely asinine.

Lenore Rhyne knocked off Tampa 16-15 in OT after trailing at the half 10-5. What an incredible game. I love how all the schools webcast their games now it’s freaking great this was an incredible lacrosse game to watch.

Lemoyne 11, 'Hurst 9 [Final]

Lenoir-Rhyne 18, Wingate 10 [Final]

Phat, do you think Lenoir is a pretty good favorite against our Phins this weekend? What's your take on the matchup?

I think Lenoir Rhyne is really really good but I can never count out a Sheehan prepared team. This Dickinson kid for LR is the real deal. 6-2 195 sr out of Charlotte. Their other two big gun attackman are Canadians and one is 6-4 230. They're going to pose problems. Classic offense vs defense matchup.

I watched LR play about 5 or 6 times and like what they do on offense enough that we're trying to install elements of it with the HS kids. They're scoring a ton. Lots of movement and motion, their wing attackers replace a lot with the middies.

Might be nothing but I'll be interested to see how they do on grass. I feel like every time I've watch them it's on turf.

I believe the Northern schools like LeMoyne play better defense. LeMoynes offense isn’t bad but LR offense is better IMO. I could see this being a real fun shootout.
