    Maliq Brown in the portal

It’s probably going to look like the last 7 or 8. We’re not Syracuse anymore and haven’t been for a long time.

    Justin Taylor transferring to JMU

Is he good enough to play for JMU?
  3. TinyManInside

    Justin Taylor transferring to JMU

Wow. I don’t know what to say to that other than this is a blatant misuse of team resources (in both directions). Way too many shots for Taylor and far too few for Maliq.

    JB on Schein

Ummm…. There have been more than 100 new D1 basketball schools added since the tournament expanded to 64 teams. Statistically speaking from a % participant standpoint, going to 96 teams now would be THE EXACT SAME ACHIEVEMENT as making the field in 1985.

    NC State

NC State has played very physical basketball through this tourney and gotten away with few fouls. Will be interesting to see if the refs swallow their whistles again tonight.

Here is a question and a thought

My perspective on the season is that Mintz was probably the least impactful 19 ppg scorer I’ve ever seen in my life. There wasn’t a single time the entire season when I thought “ok, this is when Mintz steps it up and closes out this game.” Not once. The games we did win, it felt like it was...

Here is a question and a thought

That high? If you take out the complete fluke 5-7 game he was 24.5% on the year.

So Who Is The First Portaler?

This hasn’t been Syracuse for almost a decade.

So Who Is The First Portaler?

This is 100% inaccurate. There are plenty of professions where you get non-compete contracts either when you sign or if you leave. My wife has a 2-year non-compete if she leaves her job.

The offense the last 8 games….

The amazing thing about the scoring is that somehow we’re doing that with no post presence and only one guy who can hit the broad side of a barn outside the arc.

    Q-

It’s pretty apparent to me over the last 10 games or so that Copeland is the heart and soul of this team. I think we’re going to get two years of him really stepping into the team leader role. Add a couple of pieces and maintain some semblance of continuity and we’re in business…

We won. That is all that matters right now

Not applicable comparison. That Ennis team was a mediocre team that was over-performing and looked good but in reality wasn't that good, and people were warning that the team wasn't as good as the record (and that warning was 100% accurate). This current team is a team striving to be decent...

    Recruiting

In the 2000s and the early 2010s Boeheim always had the final say on who they were recruiting. The assistants would scout the major camps during the first few days, then JB would fly in for the last few days to do his assessments and decide on who he wanted the assistants to focus on. He always...

Red Season 1 Now a Bust

Wait, what? Taylor is shooting 30% from three? How is that possible? If feels like he's about 3 for his last 25.

    Lower Canada

Accurate. Certainly an hour north of Syracuse is. Lower Canada is literally how I describe my hometown (in St. Lawrence County) to people I meet who ask me where I'm from.

    UNC Postgame Thoughts

Copeland made about 6 huge defensive plays in the last 5 minutes. Love it.

Once Judah took the ball out of Q’s hands

Judah’s effectiveness (and the game outcome) is pretty much directly proportional to the refs’ willingness to call fouls when he flops. Yesterday he got no foul calls on his flops, so we lost. Pretty simple.
  19. TinyManInside

Time for a lineup shake up

I don’t understand why Taylor plays more than zero minutes a game.
  20. TinyManInside

    JJ's shooting progression

The numbers on his improvement speak for themselves, but the shot still looks herky-jerky and not very fluid to me.

    Nobody Deserves It More Than

Copeland was really bad for 30 minutes. I texted STEVEHOLT and told him "we can't win when Copeland is in {expletive deleted} mode." Q literally turned it around almost immediately after I sent the text.

    Thanks Red

Thanks for installing a new brand of basketball, it's refreshing after the same stale approach for the last 6 or 7 seasons. I've thoroughly enjoyed watching Cuse hoops this year. Still too soon to make any judgment on if Red is the right man for the longterm, but I truly appreciate his...

    End of games with Judah.

You got the "on the basketball floor" part right, because he throws himself on the court about a dozen times a game flopping for a foul.

    Cuse fan and dolphin fan

A key parallel between Cuse hoops and Dolphins football - both teams are really good at beating teams that are not as good as they are, and neither has any chance against any team that is even remotely better.
  27. TinyManInside

Cuse opens as 12.5 road dogs vs UNC.

Close game for 30 minutes then UNC figures out how to stop turning the ball over against our havoc, then lose by 15+.

Is Copeland considered a PG for our team?

Copeland is certainly the closest thing to a PG that this team has. Judah does almost nothing to set up anyone other than himself. Copeland at least seems to understand and see that there are four other humans on the court wearing the same uniforms as he is within the same space/time continuum.

On par with recent history. Don’t really understand all the criticism considering how crummy we’ve been for awhile. Just maintaining our status.

    JJ Starling

One of the crazy things with Starling is that he looks like he decelerates every time he drives. He can get by his primary defender like 85% of the time (very good!) but then it looks like he can’t maintain speed and ends up slowing down and dribbling right into a double team (very bad!) leading...

How 'Bout Some Justin Taylor Love?

Happy with Taylor’s rebounding; he’s much tougher than I thought last year. The shot mechanics- hate the placement of his left hand all the way on top of the ball. Slows the release and honestly I think the ends up more as a push with weird follow through.
  36. TinyManInside

    I know it’s early

Starting backcourt is basically Mintz and a crummier version of Mintz. Total redundancy.

    Heart, massive heart

First half we looked like Boeheim was coaching. Looked exactly like how the team played against Colgate the last 2 years. Fortunately we didn’t just sit in zone and let them hit 8 more threes in the second half.
  38. TinyManInside

    We learned something tonight

We learned that it is harder for Colgate to get wide open threes if we aren’t playing 40 minutes of zone.
  39. TinyManInside

    2023-24 Portal Options

Girard is too undisciplined for Pitino; takes too many bad shots. I don’t see it unless he is willing to subjugate his game, which I see no evidence of. Could see him going to somewhere like Sienna where he has even more free reign to shoot a gazillion times a game.

Adrian Autry to Take Helm of Men's Basketball as Jim Boeheim's Storied Career Comes to End

Hopkins was originally named coach in waiting by Daryl Gross in 2007 or 2008. I don’t know why no one remembers this. Then there was a second coach-in-waiting designation in the mid 2010s.
