    Houston #1

Made a similar comment in another thread. I was a student from 1980-1984 and remember free fries at Burger King on M-Street when SU scored 100 points and it actually happening more than once. How is it with the shot clock and 3 pt shot which were supposed to increase the pace of the game and...

    NC State

I'm rooting for NC State as well. One of the few other teams in the ACC that I don't hate. Actually glad to see UNC and Duke no longer playing in the tourney.

I remember those days - free fries at Burger King on M Street if SU scored 100 points. And I remember it happening more than once during my college years - '80-'84. this was before the 3 pt shot AND the shot clock. How is it that even since both of those have been around, 100 point a games...

Coach P now the LB coach for the Memphis Showboats

I still think firing Coach P was one of the worst decisions made by the SUAD. Football program has never been the same since (came close during the Marrone era but it ended too soon).

I wonder if it has anything to do with Red having been these guys Associate head coach before being their Head coach. I suspect the rapport between associate/assistant coaches and players is different than the rapport between players and head coach. Perhaps that might be why it seems they didn't...

    Quadir Copeland in the portal

I feel pretty much the same way. While there definitely needed to be changes to the transfer rules (which previously seemed really unfair to players) and the draconian restrictions on player's ability to earn money while the NCAA and schools raked in millions on their backs, the way things are...

    Red's Postgame Presser | UNC

Q is definitely one of my all time favorite players for SU. The energy and enthusiasm he brings on and off the court is incredible. Very entertaining to watch.

    Might cut the cord

Yeah, I agree it stinks the Amazon just added commercials for everyone, even if you already had an active subscription where you thought you were getting commercial free streaming. However, so far, the commercials I've seen have been brief and only at the start of the show. Hopefully it stays...

    Might cut the cord

It was so much better before when there were only a handful of streaming services - at first, most everything that was on network TV was on Hulu, but many left to form their own streaming service (NBC/Peacock. CBS/Paramount). Hulu is now pretty much just the Disney/ABC/Fox properties. I watch...

My wife yelled at me for screaming at the TV

I watched the game on replay and even though I already knew the final score, I still jumped up and let out a loud "YES!" when Q hit that shot. What a fun game to watch!

    Might cut the cord

Probably to try and retain/attract customers away from the streaming services like YouTube TV. they are also doing away with cable boxes, replacing them with Xumo Stream box which provides their Spectrum TV streaming app along with other streaming apps.

    Seating preference discussion

Those are great seats. When I was a student back in '81-'82 and '82-'83, my friends and I had season tickets in Section 124 across from the SU bench/scorer's table. We were a little further back than row A but the sight lines were awesome. Personally, I prefer seating that's parallel with the...

    Seating preference discussion

I would suggest staying away from lower level seats in section 104 as well. I booked seats there once thinking they'd be great, and close to the action. Unfortunately, the press row seats are in front of sections 103 and 104 and on risers, so you're not as close as it would seem. Also, since...

Hard to tell whether Q was happy with his performance today

I just love the energy he brings onto the court. Q's at 100% effort all the time.

    The Downside- Purdue

I'm still scratching my head over that one. I went back and re-watched that play twice. Allen was clearly inbounds and 2 yards past the line before he got tackled and knocked backwards. Thought for sure it was a first down (even the announcers did), and next thing I hear is 2nd and 1 and then...

    My Take

Haven't been to a game yet in the new dome (hopefully this year), but watching the game at home, when you can hear the PA guy in the background of the TV audio, it sounds clear. You can clearly hear when he's announcing the down and yardage and such. Must be something in the way they pipe other...

    bridge

Yeah, I think it's suspected that most are probably just using something like Waze or Google Maps instead of a commercial truck GPS.
  18. 85SUAlum

    bridge

There's a bridge in Glenville, near Albany, NY that trucks are hitting constantly because they follow their GPS and apparently either don't pay attention to all of the signs, flashing lights, etc. warning of a low bridge, or they are clueless about how high their truck is.

First memory of Manley Field House?

My first year as a student was in 1980 so I've only seen SU basketball in the Dome. The only basketball game I saw there, and my first memory of Manley, was my high school's team when they played for the Section III championship at Manley in 1976 (I was in 8th grade at the time and my cousin was...

    Seating

I agree with the statements that "real fans stand", but in my experience, there are a lot of non-real fans at the games. I had seats in the bleacher section just to the left of the student section (105?) WIth the students standing most of the game, my wife and I had to stand so we could see the...

    Might cut the cord

Youtube TV's DVR service alone is nearly worth the price of the service. Hated Spectrum DVR - was always missing shows or they didn't adjust when a show started late or ran long. I almost never watch anything live anymore except sports. I can't stand watching commercials.

    Hungry Chucks is back

I remember (barely) on St Patrick's day in '83 they had, if I recall correctly, 5 cent drafts of green beer starting in the morning. I think it started at 8 AM and the drafts went up 5 cents an hour. By late morning, me and my buddies were pretty buzzed. I remember tying to go to class...

    Hungry Chucks is back

As long as Varsity Pizza is still there, I'm happy. If you think it was popping 20 years ago, you should have been there 40 years ago before drinking age went up to 21 in 1985! Maggie's and Chuck;s were my favorite places to hang out back in those days.

    Hungry Chucks is back

For me it was Zorba's roast beef subs. I actually worked for Johnny doing delivery in my junior year ('82-83). Watched how he made the subs, but I still haven't been able to replicate it on my own and no other sub shop has come close either.

    Please clear up the issues

When this was all first approved, the lowercase nil is what I thought the whole name, image, likeness was going to be - letting the players earn money through merch, appearances, commercials, etc., letting the players make some money off of their own talent and effort. This NIL where players are...

The Louie and Bouie Show - Part Two

Would love to read your write-up on the "Tri-Captains Era". That was my era of SU hoops as I was a student from '80-85 and had season tickets to the games for the first 3 years I was on campus. I became a big fan of SU during the Louie and Bouie era (it's why I went to Syracuse), but it's the...

The Louie and Bouie Show - Part Two

This is a great read SWC, and I was going to say, you should write a book on SU hoops history. The previous post references "your book", so maybe you already have? What book might that be?

Poll: Will you Watch the Title Game?

Haven't watched any other games in the tourney, why start now. If SU isn't in the tourney, I have no interest except to check the post game scores to see if the teams I can't stand lost or not. Hoping UConn loses, but I'm not going to watch it to find out.

The Multiview that YoutubeTV had for the NCCC tournament was pretty darn cool. 4 games on at once and you could select wich one you wanted audio for by moving the selection around. 2003 Albany Regional Memories

My biggest memory was thinking what an idiot I was for not purchasing any of the ticket packages for Albany when they first announced that Albany would be hosting the East Regionals. I would only be interested in attending the games if SU was playing and, at the time, I was thinking what are...

    YouTubeTV Multiview for Games

Have no real interest in the tourney without SU in it, so wasn't planning on watching any games but just had to check out this new feature. It's the only reason I even bothered to watch any games last night and luckily happened to catch the FDU upset of Purdue.

    The Upside - Wake II

Also, if SU thought they had a shot at the NIT, wouldn't thay have likely waited to let JB go until after the tournament seedings were announced?
  37. 85SUAlum

    The Upside - Wake II

Fingers crossed, but I was expecting we'd need at least a win or 2 in the ACC tourney to have a shot at the NIT. If they don't get an NIT bid, would they consider playing in the CBI? From my understanding, there's a sizable entry fee to play in that, so I'm thinking probably not.
  38. 85SUAlum

    The Upside - Wake II

According to JB in the presser, he was supposed to try and run a high-low play and get the ball to Jesse, but wasn't able to get the pass to him. It was not drawn up to go to Girard. I too think it would have been better if he continued driving to the basket for a layup or try and draw a foul...

    The Upside - Wake II

Really enjoy your upside reports - it's one of the few reasons I still visit this board (the negativity and hate present in most other posts is a real turnoff). I have to ask though, what would be the "1+ to go"? Do you anticipate they're going to some sort of postseason tournament? I'm...

    Did Craig Forth

yes, but the piece of wood it went into was damaged when it hit the floor. Was able to get it back together but it had a wobble to it after that which really killed its speed. Also didn't know about the drilling a whole and putting weight in it trick either. 40+ years later and I still remember...

    Did Craig Forth

Same thing happened to me - I built mine myself, no help from any adult (unlike most of the other kids). During the pre-race testing, mine got knocked off the track and broke an axle. Was able to fix it but never had a chance after that.

I've been with YouTube TV since it was available in the Albany, NY area. Highly recommend it. Easy to us interface and the included DVR capability is unparalleled. Only downside is they no longer carry YES network so games that YES network carries are sometimes blacked out, even on ESPN.com...

THE BIGGEST HOSING IN THE HISTORY OF THE SCHOOL

I've hated the move to the ACC ever since it happened. I've hated UNC and Duke for longer and more than any team in the Big East, even Georgetown (but maybe not UConn). The fact that we can't seem to get a fair shake from the officials in both basketball and football makes it even more...

    The Upside- Georgia Tech

Brown impresses me with his court awareness - always seems to be in a great position for an offensive rebound and put back, and gets himself in the right locations underneath for a dish and basket. It's a big reason why he had 18 points today.

Why do people prefer the gameday thread to the Chat Room?

There are restrictions on comments in the game chat. If their comments are getting them booted from the game thread, I would assume similar comments would likely get booted from the chat as well. I don't think harsh player/coach criticisms are tolerated.

Why do people prefer the gameday thread to the Chat Room?

The game Chats are not available to everybody? What level is "gold" member status? Mine shows as a second stringer and I have access to the Chat, and I believe I always have from the beginning. Why do people prefer the gameday thread to the Chat Room?

The chat room here is free. It's on the menu at the top, just to the right of the Donate option, but you don't have to pay anything to join the chat room. I prefer the chat room as I find it's more conversational than the game thread, more immediate, and I don't have to keep hitting refresh and...
