    2023 NYS Section III Thread...

Union has 2 turf fields. The football stadium and a satellite field down the road closer to the Casino. Nisky's turf is still being installed and can't take spectators yet so they rent the Union turf.

    Jacksonville

Reading these comments brings it all back and reminds me of a story. I was spending a good chunk of dough for my son who is now a player at a lower level D1 program. As someone who was close friends to the club director and has been around the game since childhood I still got sucked into...

    Vermont Game Preview (02/04/23, 1pm)

I am curious about folks thoughts about the Tarheels. Last year they had the #1 freshman class, while this year we do (I will grant our class is potentially generational). Not sure but I have to think the talent they had going in to complement the class was comparable if not better than ours...

Gait Lacrosse Official Equipment Supplier for SU

I don't believe the gear is free. They probably have a certain discount or lump sum they can apply to uni's, gear, etc. Different situation as non-revenue football schools but the NEC schools who now will play in the MAAC had to buy all new uni's that don't say NEC on them. This reduces their...

    2022 Fall Ball

We're arguing about technique displayed on a still picture? The kid is a two time AA and two time NEC D player of the year. His metrics are pretty solid. I tend to think GK is more transferable from lower D1 to higher D1 than other positions. Will Mark is a Goaliesmith athlete and trainer if...

    2022 Fall Ball

You obviously are fond of Murph and that's great. I have seen every LIU game the last two years. I am very familiar with Murph and his game. As an SU alum I hope he kills it. I am keeping my expectations low as I don't see it. ACC is tough sledding. BTW, I heard Ferris is no longer with...

    2022 Fall Ball

Mark is 2 time NEC D player of the year and 2 time HM AA. I would expect him to be successful at SU. I would be surprised if Murph gets much run for SU but we shall see - that's a big jump for a dmid.

The Day After Thoughts - Houston (Desko) we have a problem

Hard to argue with that assessment. If your scheme is off and you can't make adjustments in game that is on Rodgers and Desko. The talent on D may not be AA level other than Dearth and Porter but it is still really solid. Was the Army strategy that much different from their previous game that...

Who is the second midfield this year?

I have a feeling that you will see much more creativity this year with teams getting the best guys out there regardless of position. The position itself can be meaningless, it really is more about where they should be on the field. Up top/wings/X. "Attackman" coming out of the box will be the...

    Post Game Podcast

It's pretty good. This is their third episode I guess. They had Ryder GArnsey last week and Wes Berg and another Canadian player the first week. Might cater to a younger crowd but I still liked it.

    2020 Fall Ball (Scrimmages Canceled)

I have a hard time believing any Freshman will see significant mins other than Hiltz. I would imagine most will be offered a RS - will be interesting to see how many take it. Just too much talent coming back plus a few transfers.

    Attack Log Jam

Ferris was a AA as a jr. Although he rarely got the #1 pole as his squad had another AA that year who is now at Cornell. 5 or 6 D1 players from Sect 2 in that class all on offense. He is very good and probably under the radar but that is a tough lineup to crack. Quinn from Nisky was top 10...

Class of 2022 New Commit: Joey Spallina (NY: Mt Sinai) Attack

Tough to have once in a generation talent 2 out of 3 years. Lol, and the Macadorey kid who is the #1 in the 2021 class is unreal as well and all played for 91 Crush. If I could choose I would take O'Neil out of the 3 of them in a heartbeat but either way it will be fun to watch. Fingers crossed.

Class of 2022 New Commit: Joey Spallina (NY: Mt Sinai) Attack

Curious, considering that many here and elsewhere thought Hiltz was second only to Oneil who may be the best prospect in a decade, is it a guarantee he would get the 22 when Scanlon graduates or even be a better prospect?

    The Duke Matchup Next Year

O'Neil significantly faster than he looks. Outstanding body control for kid his size. A lefty but his right is highly skilled. I have seen him play live many times. He is not just a body up type of player like Tehoka. Not saying he can't be stopped though. Plus that attack will be tough to...

All these kids have to get to receive $ outside of the 12.6 is 1275 SAT, 3.5 GPA or 28 ACT. These levels are based on NCAA rules and have no bearing on the schools academic prowess. Get to those levels and they become a non-counter which means they can get aid outside of the 12.6...

Class of 2021 New Commit: Kyle McCarthy (MA: Pingree) D/LSM

He generally only reports on kids he or someone in his shop has seen play or are directly aware of. Mostly NLF kids or kids who performed well at big showcases like Maverik.

    Recruiting 2019-2021

Interesting. This wasn't my understanding but I will have to do some due diligence. I know a player committed to a private NEC school. He got 40% and admissions offered another 40% in merit because his numbers were higher than the schools average very I don't think they were quite what you...

Class of 2020 New Commit: Liam Ferris (NY) A/M

He will have a hard time duplicating his jr. year numbers just because of how good his team was and how much they lost to graduation (2 AA's and a couple other College players). He will see a lot of lock offs and double and triple teams in the Spring. Patience.

Class of 2020 New Commit: Liam Ferris (NY) A/M

Class of 2020 Camden Hay (NY: Victor) Attack / Flipped to UAlbany

I have no inside info on SU coaches behavior but do you really think SU just recruits the 15 kids they have at the top of their board? Coaches have kids ranked and they may tell a kid they love him but he's in their second tier and they land the kids in their first tier than said second tier...
  27. C

Class of 2020 Camden Hay (NY: Victor) Attack / Flipped to UAlbany

Not really no. it's a cutthroat game. Why should only the coaches be able to play it. If our coaches aren't doing their due diligence to make sure a kid is truly interested than that's on them. I certainly wouldn't let my kid do that (and there is always some context missing in stories like...

Class of 2020 Camden Hay (NY: Victor) Attack / Flipped to UAlbany

I am with you Phat. The recruiting scene is crazy. Coaches are out for #1, they have all the leverage. i've heard some real BS over the last year. We don't hear about schools pulling scholie's but it happens, or they leave it out there, reduce it the next year and bring in a new shiny toy...

Class of 2020 Camden Hay (NY: Victor) Attack / Flipped to UAlbany

I have no issues with the kid decommitting. The early recruiting was a disaster and unfortunately SU has felt the repercussions more than others. The same reasons why Hay committed to UA are probably the same ones why Ierlan left (plus an Ivy education). The looser style is great for some and...

Class of 2020 Camden Hay (NY: Victor) Attack / Flipped to UAlbany

Agreed. I generally can't stand UA but Marr is widely known as the kind of coach who goes out of his way to communicate with his players and recruits. His compassion when personal tragedies happen is well known locally.

    Who Plays Third Attack Spot?

Hard to know where Dordevic will be until he's health That said Scanlan did a lot of damage on the right wing at Loyola catching passes from Spencer at X which is where I could see Dordevic playing as an attack. It would seem to me that Dordevic and Scanlan would be playing in a similar spot...

    Who Plays Third Attack Spot?

Hard to disagree. Bigger question is probably who is the 4th attacker. A: Rehfuss, Scanlan, Cook M: Curry, Trimbo, Dorevic, Lipka, Buttmore, Quinn, New guys.

Class of 2020 New Commit: Liam Ferris (NY) A/M

Ferris has a lot of length and is definitely in that 6'2" range. Ambidextrous. A small group of local kids have played Sweetlax and 3D. To be honest I have always wondered how and why they do it. 3d New England isn't quite as far and their practices are less frequent once the season...

Class of 2020 New Commit: Liam Ferris (NY) A/M

Don't disagree. I am loosely affiliated with a local HS team and of the players playing club it is about half and half for Top Dog and Power. Interestingly several Nisky kids play Sweetlax. They usually play both but a few kids are only doing Sweetlax this year. From what I have seen Ferris...

Class of 2020 New Commit: Liam Ferris (NY) A/M

I think the Power reference is somewhat true. I know the 2020 team has 4 Nisky kids 2 of which are goalies and 1 is new to the team this year, but other schools have comparable numbers if not more. I don't think Power is the reason why Nisky is better than everyone else but it doesn't hurt...

Class of 2020 New Commit: Liam Ferris (NY) A/M

Very true Bspalax. Nisky is very skilled at taking average to decent youth players and turning them into stars. Their coaching at the modified, JV and VArsity level is superior to other Section 2 schools. Kids are coached year round. Bethlehem had 3 AA's this year (out of 5 total for the...
  37. C

Class of 2020 New Commit: Liam Ferris (NY) A/M

Nisky won the first matchup by 7. Bethlehem has 3 D1's and at least another D2. Liam's brother (D-2019) is going to Binghamton and they have another 19 attack going to Cornell (Rutgers decommit). Nisky has 2 D1 commits including Griffin King to Brown who is the only Section 2 invite to the...

The main league in Sect 2 for lax is the Suburban - the other leagues are a little weaker but still have some good teams. All the Class A lacrosse teams in Sect 2 are in the Suburban Council. In B - the top 4 seeded teams are Ballston Spa, Burnt Hills, Queensbury and Columbia (all except...

That Lemoyne vs. Mack game should be fantastic. Both previous games were very tight. I wish I could get down to Syracuse for that one.

    2019 Men's Div II Bracket

Still think its the NE10 schools and Limestone. Too bad as a final four of Lemoyne, Adelphi, Merrimack and Limestone would be outstanding.
  44. C

    2019 Men's Div II Bracket

Good stuff Phat. Maybe my issue is with the remainder of the south bracket and not Limestone. There are a few local Capital Dist kids on Limestone in fact - i think from BSpa.
  45. C

    2019 Men's Div II Bracket

I guess that is why they play the games. I just think the south bracket gets a huge break by no one having to play any of Lemoyne, Adelphi, Merrimack, Mercyhurst until the Final. From what I could tell Lemoyne, Adelphi and Mack just beat on each other and could arguably be the top 3 teams in...
  46. C

    2019 Men's Div II Bracket

I get that Limestone is undefeated but are they really better than Adelphi, Lemoyne or Merrimack? Belmont Abby got a 2 seed in the south and realistically have a easier road the both Adelphi and Merrimack.
  47. C

    2019 High School Lacrosse

Have to admit I was surprised by that score as well. Cream of the Sect 2 Class A crop is probably Nisky and Bethlehem this year. I got a report that Nisky and JD tied in a scrimmage last weekend.

March Madness (SU vs Duke about to be orphaned)

No idea but 5K is a lot of seats for a HS bleacher/stadium - how many, if any can accommodate that many people?

    UVA vs High Point

Tough to say they are rebuilding when they have one of the better top 6 offensively in the country. Game was super sloppy and it just seemed HP took advantage more often. That failed UVA clear and empty net goal late in the 4th was a killer.
