Big East Tournament versus the ACC Tournament

I'm glad the board is happy with all the money.

Big East Tournament versus the ACC Tournament

I'm not a big Syracuse football fan. I like it when they win. But compared to the excitement of Syracuse basketball prior to 2013, there is no comparison.

Big East Tournament versus the ACC Tournament

I don't remember the excitement at all. I thought it was a mistake when it happened.

Big East Tournament versus the ACC Tournament

I understand Syracuse was chasing a big money TV deal when leaving the Big East for the ACC. But I would rather watch the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden than watch any game being placed at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte. The power of the Big East came from the region. No major...

Time to shake things up especially against Virginia at home

I would like to see JB do something completely against his nature. I would like to see JB start the game with Virginia playing man-to-man. I have three reasons. First, it will warm up our players who have been started out slow on defense. Second, in years past, our players perk up and play...

What is wrong w ppl saying Mintz is completely fine?

I'm not happy with it but at the same time I'm hoping the freshmen-itus is gone soon. There's a lot of pressure on Mintz. He made some mistakes. I still like is overall play though. I think he has great potential to be outrageously great!

    Postgame Thoughts... UNC

There were a lot of games were our favorite team won with really bad free-throw shooting because of transition baskets. I'm not sure this year's squad has quite figured out the amazingly rewarding nature of fast breaks off 2-3 zone pass interceptions. Once they figure it out Mintz will have a...

    Postgame Thoughts... UNC

I think the Tim Higgins like call on Mintz driving to the basket was why our favorite team lost. I guess the ACC refs from the deep south decided UNC needed a quadrant 4 victory so they could make it to the dance! If the Orange are ranked by the end of the season mission accomplished. I think...

    Postgame Thoughts... UNC

I agree. This team reminds me of teams of old a little bit. The freshmen are awesome. We just need the defense to evolve from good to outrageously great by March. The defense is key. I think the offense is good enough. But this 2-3 zone is not quite as good as ones in years past. I think...

    Postgame Thoughts... UNC

I didn't know Tim Higgins was still refereeing games!
  12. Dave85

Duke and North Carolina’s transitions are why I hope we don’t hire an internal candidate as next HC

I too have a opinion on this thread's topic. Hiring within has the pro that I like Coach Autry and Coach McNamara. I am concerned about name recognition and recruiting. So spending megabucks to brink in a star coach may help more with recruiting. Plus, bringing in a star coach for megabucks...

How freaking good is Maliq Brown?

Is it just me or did it seem like a bunch of those dunks should have been an and-1. A lot no calls!!
  14. Dave85

Its too bad Tuesday night's game is 9 pm

I like watching this year's team. Brown is awesome! And Mintz is getting more confident. Edwards is playing really well. And I like watch Girard score when backing down near the paint. Of course, his 3s are awesome and needed. It would be really nice to beat UNC. My father-in-law lives in...

    Black

Our team needs to get them in foul trouble early!
  16. Dave85

Well, it’s obvious that either Maliq or one of JT/Cope need to start

You both make good comments. One time I heard JB say the starters are the players who get the most playing time. For every player on this team playing will depend on how well a player plays on defense. Playing good defense is going to get a player more playing time. JB's teams have always...

    Can we be optimistic?

You make good points. I think it all comes down to how good the defense can be. In years past when the Orange were successful the defense always became amazingly great by the end of February early March. My hope is this year is no different. I think the real question is will 19 or 20 wins...

Joe Girard - 28 points, 6-10 from three, 7 assists

Make the tournament and he stays!
  19. Dave85

Joe Girard - 28 points, 6-10 from three, 7 assists

He's been playing great when he backs down into the paint. Plus hitting the 3s is always a good thing!

    Postgame Thoughts… GT

I thought Mintz played really well in this game. Especially late in the second half. I like when he plays with confidence.

How freaking good is Maliq Brown?

Me too, I love his game. He's the reason I'm posting today. I really like the way Maliq is playing. He's really good. If this team makes the tournament, Maliq will be the reason why this team makes a deep run. Edwards and Girard are great. but I just like the energy Maliq brings. He's big...

    It’s on!

Buddy's step-back fade shot which is really hard to do is amazing. It's such and amazing move to have as part of his game. I don't think it can be defended. And he hit's those shots consistently. Regardless of being the son of the coach, I really like Buddy's game.

Derrick Coleman, John Wallace, Carmelo Anthony, Dwayne "the Pearl" Washington, CJ Fair Honorable mentions: Kris Joseph, Sherman Douglas, Brandon Triche, Andy Rautins, Eric Devendor, Jerami Grant, Dion Waiters, Rick Jackson (Big East Defensive POY), Scoop Jardine, Leo Rautins There's probably...

Class of 2022 C Peter Carey (MA) COMMITTED/SIGNED TO SYRACUSE

The "And Also" part was funny. The kid definitely works hard on his post moves. You can just tell when a big man has good skills. In the warm-ups he's doing all kinds of spin moves and/with up-and-unders (and doing them very fast too). He has really great leg work already! Both sides!

Class of 2022 C Peter Carey (MA) COMMITTED/SIGNED TO SYRACUSE

He went to a prep school which did not play because of Covid. So he was not exposed enough to be ranked very high nationally.

    Drexel game thoughts

This may sound a little nitpicking but I really did not like the way the announcers called the game. Too much commentary on stuff having nothing to do with the game. I prefer to hear a player's name every now and then when a player touches the ball and makes a play on offense or defense. I...

    Drexel game thoughts

They need to feed the hot shooter until he starts missing. I like the way Girard is playing. He only scores when needed. Otherwise, he's the glue making the offence work. You need players like this to be really good.
  31. Dave85

Class of 2022 C Peter Carey (MA) COMMITTED/SIGNED TO SYRACUSE

I just watched Carey's highlights. He's tall with a really good build. He moves well for being so tall. I think he's going to be really good player in center of the zone. He looks like he's a great at blocking and dunking. Not ranked very high nationally but he had a strange recruiting path.

Those 8 points were huge during that moment of the game.

    Jimmy B. - The Player!

Both JB boys grew up through some of the most exciting basketball games I've ever seen. I have to believe living through so much excitement has to be extremely motivational to participate in the same experiences with their father.

    Some quick overall season thoughts

I thought JBs comments from the press conference about the defense shifting when the ball was passed to top of the key were interesting. He called it a "slight adjustment" and then made the comment the team needs to figure out what the other team is doing sooner and react to it sooner. I've...

ZACH EDEY of Purdue may be the biggest basketball player I've ever seen

Good point. But just saying Shaq in this conversation is something. Can you imagine if Zach transferred to SU. OMG, he would be so much fun to watch anchoring the zone! He runs the floor well too.
  36. Dave85

    The Downside - Drexel

I think the bigger issue this year will not be rebounding but not having Sidibe available and Edwards getting into foul trouble. Anselem played pretty good be he really needs to step up. I can't argue with you with the idea rebounding is important. It's just that over the years when JBs teams...
  37. Dave85

    The Downside - Drexel

I think the rebounding comment happens every year. I think you have to take into account the number of steals and turnovers because of the zone. There's lots of ways to win by making up deficiencies with other stats. I heard it said the nature of the zone makes it more difficult to get good...

ZACH EDEY of Purdue may be the biggest basketball player I've ever seen

It's so funny you made this comment. I thought the exact same thing when I heard it. There always seems to be a Big 10 bias and most of the time they get spanked in the big dance.

ZACH EDEY of Purdue may be the biggest basketball player I've ever seen

Can you imagine if Zach transferred to SU next year! I'm starting the transfer campaign now. I want to see him in the center of the zone.

The guy literally looks like a GIANT: It's just unbelievable anyone can be that big.

ZACH EDEY of Purdue may be the biggest basketball player I've ever seen

The guy is 7'4" and 295 pounds. When I was flipping through channels I saw Purdue playing. He made the other teams forwards look like point guards. I would say this guy may be a matchup problem for any team! https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/player/_/id/4600663/zach-edey

  45. Dave85

This is a very good team

The problem with this team is depth at center. Frank needs to take a huge leap. If Jesse gets into foul trouble the Orange are going to lose games. Especially on away games where hometown refs are partial like Duke and Louisville. Even if Frank does take a huge leap the Orange probably need...

    Lot's of talk...Bottom Line

They do not have enough big men to play center. If Jesse and Frank get into foul trouble there's not much depth. This is exactly what is going to happen when the Orange play away games at Duke and UNC. Those local refs love to make calls in favor of the hometown crowd.
