Outside of the all important in-person interviews with leffew and his handlers, what does the “hard work” look like once the player leaves campus? Is it texting/zoom/FaceTime and a lot of meetings with donors?
Probably more like receiving votes. Certainly better than we have been but this is just clearing the bar. If making the tournament is all that matters and seed positioning doesn’t factor in to red then so be it, but I’d like to see us gun for protected seeds.
Talking about big needs... we need a Perry's ice cream in the upper concourse. I cannot believe in 2024 we still have to go down to the lower concourse if we want ice cream.
Better question is - are these seats more comfortable than the portable chairbacks that we used to slide on top of the metal bleachers? And if not, can we still use those portable chairbacks?
after 10 years of wandering the desert I do not care how we make the tournament next year - just find a way. If that means we borrow from the federal reserve or rob banks to pay these kids just do it.
agreed. if we can get kids to sign multi-year contracts, a lot of the angst will go away. The biggest issue isn't them getting paid, it's their total freedom to jump ship for any reason.
Instead of announcing verbal “commitments” they should say they are officially dating a school. Make it into Hollywood fare with anticipated breakups etc.
I’d expect there to be a loose correlation between program revenue and NIL, by sheer fact that ticket revenue is a good indicator of fan support. And I’d guess SU is underperforming based on that metric.
Having 1 or 2 big donors in the fold can make ALL the difference. See St Johns. What is the current plan to find some more white whales for Red? I would have expected football to have a much harder time with NIL given its futility over the past 20 years... so it's quite depressing to see...
I hope I'm wrong, but so far all we're doing is speculating. The other poster nailed it: if another team trying to land Leffew hired his coach we'd be screaming bloody murder.
Everyone agrees that it would be stupid. Just because it would be stupid, however, doesn't mean it should be ruled out. Maybe the NIL situation is more dire than they want to admit and they see this as a way to save some money short-term. If that's the case Red is certainly not going to...
Then either the basketball-only donors are not as well-to-do as the football-onlies... OR... maybe Red's vision is not pulling them in the way HCFB is. And that would be the bigger issue.
