    Postgame Thoughts... Pitt (game 2)

Pitt walkon dribbling through the defense for a layup was a fitting ending for this awful, awful game.

"Virginia lost by 15 points at Boston College. Nobody asked Tony Bennett to play zone, because that's their defense." - JB, today

This is the best distillation of the frustration I’ve felt the last few years. I’ve been more than willing to give JB some rope to make changes and get back the program back to where we all want it to be, even if it meant taking some lumps in the meantime. Instead it’s the same staff, same...

Do you think Boeheim has a set retirement date that he will stick to?

    Nate Oats and Alabama

Agreed. Could we match the deal he just got from Alabama? I hope so. Could we give him another $1 million or so annually to incentivize him to jump? Maybe. Could we do all that and drop another eight figures on a buyout? Seems pretty unlikely. That's all before Bama getting a chance to...

    Postgame Thoughts... Louisville

Expected better against a team that lost by 8 to Lipscomb, just 3 games ago. Very glad to get out of there with a win, but this was about as demoralizing of a win as you could get.

    Recruiting versus the portal

If Wes is the standard for a "difference maker," then almost every player - portal or otherwise - will fall short. What we got out of Cole qualifies as a real success, IMO, and the kind of production that this year's team would greatly benefit from. I don't think people are saying that the...

    Alum or community member?

Born in Rochester, but moved away when I was a kid. Following Cuse BBall and Football was basically my one ongoing connection to my hometown. It helped that I went to school at a place that didn’t have D1 sports, and didn’t have a football team at all. No fandom dilution from my alma mater.

    Tony White to Nebraska

If they fire Rhule after the first year, they'd owe a buyout of over $60 million. They're gonna give him time.

Come hang Brent Axe / Live Q & A with Wildhack

As others have noted, I didn't really expect anything different from JW here. The kind of message that would placate fans isn't one that the AD would (or should) drop in an intereview like this. That said, if all he has to offer is a tepid defense of the status quo, I'm not sure what the point...

    Frank Anselem Transferring to Georgia

No kidding. As far as I can tell he's missed all (or almost all) of this year with injury, and his prep school didn't play at all the year before that. I agree that he looked pretty good at AAU but he's missed a ton of developmental time. Never mind the risk that he's still not healthy by...

    Frank Anselem Transferring to Georgia

Definitely not surprising, but unfortunate. While he wasn't perfect, I'm not optimistic that we're going to be able to recruit someone better to back up Jesse, especially since Jesse technically has two years remaining (even though I'd be surprised if he uses both). I hope to be pleasantly...

    2022 Portal

Seems like it - one guy committed today and I assume more are coming. 13 scholarship players: One portaled midseason Two are out of eligibility Eight portaled since the season ended Tevin Brown declared for the draft Last man standing: Nicholas McMullen. Hope you’re ready for some serious...

Syracuse loses to Houston: March 27 In the portal: Braswell: March 29 JBA: March 29 Kadary: March 30 Woody: April 6 Quincy: April 30 So three within the first three days, Woody a week after that, and Quincy a few weeks later. EDIT: or just listen to OrangeXtreme, who was quicker on the...

Am I the only one not nearly as psyched about the Tournament with SU not in it?

Am I not as psyched? Yes. Will I still inject twelve hours of basketball into my veins for four straight days? Also yes.

    Another joke of a finish.

I thought I was totally numb by now, and that this team couldn’t hurt me anymore. I was wrong.

Girard is a great midmajor shooting guard

Joe does have talent. When I checked recently, he was having one of the 2 or 3 best three point shooting seasons ever at Syracuse (measured by efficiency and volume). Dude can shoot, even if today was not a good example of it. But… It is truly insane how much JB has tried to square peg/round...

    Postgame Thoughts… ND

All I could think during this game: Remember all of our bubble teams over the last several years that we complained about? Last year, the 2017, 2016 and 2015 teams? I'm pretty sure all of them would be second best team in the ACC this year.

    Symir Injury Updates...

Speaking of an injury leaving us with only two scholarship guards...what's Braedon Bayer up to these days?

The question is going to be asked at some point…

This is sort of my fear. You can construct arguments that this year is an aberration, we see people make them here frequently. Sweet Sixteens, 45 years of winning records, our team would've been great if player X didn't go pro/transfer/get hurt/decommit/get a bag from Duke or Kentucky, etc...

    Postgame Thoughts… Duke

Took a quick look - through the Georgia Tech game last year (right before we went on our run to end the year), Buddy's career 3PT% was 36.1%. Since that game, his 3PT% is...36.7%. That includes his nuclear stretch to end last year. I think we were all hopeful that the end of last year was him...

    Sure

So Benny makes an extremely mature comment about keeping his head down and seeing things through at Syracuse, he gets his a** super-glued to the bench for the next two games, and then JB flays him in the press for absolutely no reason. Awesome.

    Jimmy

QFT. Jimmy on the team next year - great! Jimmy guaranteed starter and 35+ minutes per game next year, regardless of what our new recruits and/or the portal could bring - not so great!

Honest question. Is Swider everything we expected?

By and large, I think he's been as good as we reasonably could've expected. Versus his time at Nova: 3 point shooting is pretty consistent - down a bit from recent years, but he's shooting a lot more so that isn't totally unexpected 2 point shooting percentages are way down - he's shooting...

    Is .500 in serious jeopardy?

The alternative is that he *wildly* misevaluated the talent on his roster, especially in the context of him saying that there were more people in the portal that wanted to come but that he turned them away. I do agree that the more conspiratorial views are pretty unlikely...but I don't know if...

Pitino as transitional hire to raise SU's profile

No kidding. If we got in trouble with the NCAA again, they might ding us as many as three scholarships. Can you imagine trying to field a team with only ten scholarship players? I shudder at the thought. (I'm just kidding, I think there's zero chance Rick is coming here.)

    More terrible coaching

I mean, I'm less than half JB's age, have had less success in my career than he has, and already feel myself getting more set in my ways. I'm not suggesting that he has some kind of unusual character flaw, I totally get it. I'm just trying to find a reason to give him the benefit of the doubt...

    More terrible coaching

The most unfortunate part of all of this is that, even with the disaster that this season has become, there’s a way this could’ve gone where the fans don’t turn on JB. Imagine that we still have this poorly-constructed roster, with pieces that don’t fit and not enough depth. But, JB is willing...

    Postgame Thoughts… Georgetown

“There can be no true despair without hope” If they were just getting killed every game it would be easier to give up. But they show just enough that I’m still gutted after each loss.

    Postgame Thoughts… Auburn

I generally try to take every game with a big grain of salt - we usually aren’t as good as we look when everything is clicking, and not as bad as we look when things aren’t. But…oh man, these early losses have magnified every concern you could’ve had about this team before the season began. I...

Taj Harris transferring to Rutgers..Leaving Rutgers

People respond to incentives. The system provides an incentive to quit midseason before you hit your fourth game. Preserving a redshirt paired with instant eligibility after you transfer makes this a lot more appealing if you're feeling unsure about your future in a program. On a quick look...

I learned that after watching awful offense for so long, watching your team whoop a bad FCS team is pretty fun!

    Doug Marrone

I don't know for sure if he's the best option, but I certainly wouldn't use "he left us last time" as a reason not to hire him. Almost anyone we hire is going to leave us if a blue blood or the NFL comes knocking. There's always a small chance that they have success here and decide to make...

    USC Fires Clay Helton

At this point, I don't know how many people here honestly think the turnaround is gonna happen. It seems like most posters acknowledge that we've got a tire fire. We're largely arguing over how to feng shui the burning rubber.

    It’s Macky Time

I like him too, and would be good with him joining our coaching staff in some role. Giving a guy a P5 head coaching job who hasn’t held a higher position than Kent State RB coach, and who is two years removed from coaching college football in any capacity, would be beyond insane.
  44. L

    Whos our next head coach

I just complained in another thread about how our team has become really boring. That certainly wouldn’t be a problem with Kelley. He may give our fanbase heart attacks with his aggressiveness, but that’s a different problem.
  45. L

We just saw a man's current career end

This is the most baffling thing with Dino - the wild shift from OITNF to…whatever this is. I can see how our offense could be bad. I’m completely dumbfounded how it became so unbelievably stagnant and conservative.
