    2023 Fall Ball

You're right. The proof will be in the results. It'd be great to hang 20 on UNC, but we will see. I bet March is dying to score a ton of goals on the UNC defense.

    2023 Fall Ball

This quote is just wild to me, in a good way. When was the last time Petro was in charge of a team with a good defense?

    2023 Fall Ball

I agree that Figgy, Dwan and Kol are the front runners. I'm a big Dwan fan. I loved watching him play offball last spring. I think he's so smart and he takes care of the ball on clears. I'm not sleeping on Kuczynski or Caccamo. ACC teams have two good attack dodgers these days. If Figgy is...

    2023 Fall Ball

Is the depth chart something like: 1a Olexo 1b Wright 2 Schmitt Sageder is listed at SSDM. Not sure where Clary fits. He was the backup LSM behind Brett Kennedy in 2021, I think.

    Potential 2024 Roster

Birtwhistle and Stevens kinda had similar man-up roles for their respective teams last season. I wouldn't be surprised if SU keeps Birtwhistle on man-up and leaves Stevens off of it. SU needed players in the middle of the field last season and Stevens is that. He's going to carry a heavy load...

    Potential 2024 Roster

I usually don't get into these, but I'm guessing there is little chance we see English on man up. His best attribute, in my opinion, is his first step. It seems particularly strange to take Birtwhistle off, since he scored a bunch of man up goals. Maybe you were thinking of Jake Stevens who...

    Potential 2024 Roster

Do we know if Kellogg is even a good shooter? SU has had guys with hard shots who couldn’t score much. It’s hard to find much on Kellogg. Was he productive at TP?

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Class of 2023 New Commit: Trey Deere (PQ / CT: Salisbury) Attack

Agree on a lot of this. Especially the balance part. It’s an overlooked part of elite athleticism. Lionel Messi has great balance. Let’s also remember that Deere played ssdm for the Iroquois u-21 this summer and did very well. He plays with an edge too.

    2022 Inside Lacrosse Power 100

I think Caponiti has been playing, but Brunswick has been loaded and Caponiti's game seems quite limited. He's big and thick, so maybe he was big when he was young and could dominate. James Matan has been injured a lot, but Xanders had him really high, so I don't think that's it. Matan has...

    2022 Men’s U21 Championship: Aug 10-20 in Ireland

Dane Swanson had a good year for Navy if I remember correctly. However, I would not re-choose the team. Didn’t they already kind of spruce it up a bit? I thought I remember them adding a couple new guys. Also, Myers always talks about the guys he picks having certain traits that he wants on...

    Off-season workout plan

Check out Jamie Munro's website www.jm3sports.com and his twitter account. He recommends playing small-sided pick up games and doing max effort sprints for a good summer routine. The small-sided pick up games are really the ideal thing for a lacrosse player during the summer. 1) you can do it...

Class of 2020 New Commit: Owen Hiltz (IN: Culver) Attack / Flip from Denver

Hiltz is playing OJLL jr a for Peterborough this summer. He has 20 points in 4 games, which puts him near the league lead for points per game. Finn Thompson has 29 points in 6 games for undefeated Mimico.

Class of 2022 New Commit: Finlay Thomson (ON) Attack

Yeah, he's got good, soft hands.

Class of 2022 New Commit: Finlay Thomson (ON) Attack

When I watch him, I see someone who will benefit from having dynamic offensive players around him. I don't know if he's a dynamic player that will make others around him better. I agree that he could be very productive in college. The comparison that makes sense to me is Dylan Donahue...

Class of 2022 New Commit: Finlay Thomson (ON) Attack

I'm watching the Everest @ Gilman game. He looks 5'11" as he jogs past the cage, not 6'2". Matt Collison, the JHU recruit, looks about 6'1" in the video. Not sure what he's listed at. Thompson moves well off-ball. I'll give him that. And that's not a small thing, especially if SU will...

Class of 2022 New Commit: Michael Leo (NY: St Anthony's) Attack

Agreed. I would guess more like 5’9”-ish. Plenty of good attackmen that size.

Lelan Rogers named Head Coach at Spire Academy

I know it's silly of me, but for once I'd like to see an accomplished coach like Rogers go someplace where he can really build something and give back to a community. So, instead of going to some PG factory, go run the City of Syracuse youth program or something. Or even Westhill (isn't that...

    2021 Fall Ball

Agree with you completely. Sometimes Syracuse is able to take a unique player and find a role for him to suceed. I'm thinking of Cal Paduda and Luke Schwasnick on the face off wings in 2016. Sometimes they get a unique athlete and can't quite find a place for him. I'm thinking of Nick Martin...

    2021 Fall Ball

Is there any word on what Griffin Cook's role has been this fall? Is he at attack or midfield? Last year he took a couple runs on faceoff wings and subsequently SSDM shifts.
  24. ohmilax34

    Petro named new defensive coordinator

I think I only had 4 slots and I had Rogers as the 4th option but then there was no other option, so I took him out. The Beardsley option is a joke. I shouldn’t have given him as an option. I mostly just wanted to confirm that fans don’t actually want Beardsley as the DC.
  25. ohmilax34

    Petro named new defensive coordinator

For the record, I voted for Merrill. I’m sure there are plenty of good candidates I don’t know of. I wouldn’t want Petro or Beardsley. Getting Petro only makes sense to me if his two boys join him at SU.
  26. ohmilax34

    Petro named new defensive coordinator

How do you reconcile that with how his recent JHU defenses looked lost and confused?

    Petro named new defensive coordinator

Who do you want as new defensive coordinator?
  28. ohmilax34

Class of 2022 New Commit: Luke Rhoa (DC: St John's) Mid

I don’t see how this is worthy of any goal of the year discussion. There is certainly playing time available for offensive midfielders next year and a ton of time available starting in 2023. Rhoa looks like as good of a candidate for that time as anyone else.
  29. ohmilax34

    Potential 2022 Roster

I’m pretty sure Aidan Kelly has been playing midfield at Conestoga.
  30. ohmilax34

Class of 2021 New Commit: Finn Kelly (MD) Attack

I’m not seeing what the fuss is about with Kelly. Every time I watch AS I think who’s #8. It turns out he’s a Towson commit. Kelly didn’t play particularly well in the stretches I caught last night. He may be a good shooter and there are places for those guys on the field, but I think his...

    Chase Scanlan suspended indefinitely

These are the posts that we needed. Not the trash about how Desko is handling it, or how the press conference went. This situation directly affects some people and that doesn't include us on this forum, fanlax or the idiots at Inside Lacrosse.
  32. ohmilax34

Regardless of the Scanlan situation its time for a change at the Top

This is not to say that I think Desko should step down, but I want chime in on the list of potential replacements. I think there are probably a lot of lacrosse coaches out there who are very good coaches that we haven't heard of. Had any of us heard of Pat March before he was hired as OC? I...

  34. ohmilax34

    Chase Scanlan suspended indefinitely

I don't think it is a good idea. What's Desko supposed to say at this point?
  35. ohmilax34

    Chase Scanlan suspended indefinitely

I think it's more important that Desko gets this right than for him to speak to the media as soon as possible.
  36. ohmilax34

    Chase Scanlan suspended indefinitely

Maybe I haven't been reading the game threads enough. Are they as negative on Scanlan's play in those threads as I'm reading here?
  37. ohmilax34

    Chase Scanlan suspended indefinitely

Yeah, I think the last few posts regarding Scanlan have been really good and describe how I feel about it. In the realm of attackmen nationally that aren't the typical QB attackmen, I think Scanlan is one of the best. I'm curious if the offense will run a bit differently with Seebold being a...
  38. ohmilax34

    Chase Scanlan suspended indefinitely

I think at the time it was not clear that Maltz was a better player than Evans, and I don't really think he set the world on fire at Maryland. He was their third best attackman and played more of an off-ball role. Evans was injured a bit from what I remember in 2014 when he and Maltz were...
  39. ohmilax34

    Chase Scanlan suspended indefinitely

Donnelly would also probably the most like for like replacement for Scanlan if he was on the roster.
  40. ohmilax34

    Chase Scanlan suspended indefinitely

If Cook is the replacement for Scanlan, this is a different set up and probably a different role for Cook within the offense than the role he had last year when he started with Scanlan and Rehfuss. The second line now becomes Quinn, Seebold and ________. It seems like we're all rooting for Ferris.

Not a problem. Everything is linked together, at least somewhat.
  44. ohmilax34

Face Off struggles and adjustments by staff and players

That's a good point about what space Scanlon and Hiltz like to occupy. I thought Hiltz was good against Albany and was a little unlucky not to get another goal and assist. It seemed like the offense didn't flow through him as much as it sometimes has this season. Scanlon beating a shortstick...

Face Off struggles and adjustments by staff and players

I saw Kennedy initiate a lot of contact with his opponent on a face off wing vs. Albany. I will try to see if that's something they're trying to do more often now. In a slower game like the Albany game, Kennedy can play more on face off wings, because our offense had the ball for long...
  46. ohmilax34

Face Off struggles and adjustments by staff and players

The Albany game seemed like the first game since UVA that SU really inverted their offensive middies a lot. It seemed the strategy was to have a middie and Rehfuss behind the cage, get the ball to rehfuss and have him look for open players. It worked pretty well. I'd like to see them build on...

Face Off struggles and adjustments by staff and players

LOL, I actually did watch most of the comeback in the Duke game. This offense can really hum when it's clicking. The Albany game was interesting in that SU had long possessions, some guys seemed to not get into the flow of the offense, but it was effective. I didn't pick up the fact that...
