Class of 2020 F Jyare Davis (DE) TRANSFERRING TO SYRACUSE (4/15/24)

Ideal portal guy. Mature with lots of experience. Stabilizing influence in the lockerroom filled with new guys. Good but not great skills. No chance of sniffing the NBA. Will come in, give us good minutes, and earn a paycheck before transitioning to Euro ball.

Rob Konrad v SUAD part one million

People in finance and tech think they can do everyone's job better than the people actually doing the work. Despite their lack of knowledge or information they can't help but let the world know how much their unique genius would change things for the better. It's become a well established...

    Fran Brown Coaching Staff

True, that's why I said rich CNYers. But things aren't better elsewhere. One way or another you're going to pay. That same house and acreage somewhere else could be $10-15 million rather than 1.5 million. And property taxes would be the same or more once you figure in the higher assessment...

    Fran Brown Coaching Staff

10K sq ft house on nearly 7 acres of land? That's a sweet deal. Rich CNYers have it pretty good.

    Hafley leaving BC for NFL

I always thought that Hafley had a more of a reputation as a recruiter so this is a surprise to me.

Tom Caporale: New Director of FL VA and JUCO Recruiting

Given how much they pay HS football coaches down south, the salary for this job must be in the couple hundred grand range? Brown came at a discount vs. Babers but the staff budget must be north of $10 million.

New OC / RB Coach: Jeff Nixon [Official]

Has a college team ever had an Af-Am HC, DC, and OC?
  8. S

    Fran Brown Coaching Staff

I'm assuming they've saved some money on HC that can be now spent on assistants. Hard to believe Brown is getting as much as Babers was.

    Good and Bad vs LSU

Starling looks to me to be struggling with a shoulder injury. You can see it in the hitch in his shot.
  10. S

    Fran Brown

Agreed. I understand the thought process behind this move. We need to motivate the big money donors. Don't know if it will work but I understand what they're doing.

    Fran Brown

The SU AD must think that the most important coaching qualification for staying relevant in the NIL age is being a recruiter. If the talent you develop is going to go elsewhere when they can then you need someone who can replace them quickly. But if money is the main draw for good talent, then...

ACC, PAC-12, and BIG alliance / conference realignment

It's neoliberalism at work. The ideas behind it have contaminated everything including sports. We were told an unfettered capitalism would get us more free and fair competition. Instead it's led to monopolies and consolidations, collusion and back-room deals, permanent haves and have-nots.

We all want to know what Autry will do different

Yep, you don't tie the hand of the guy you've hired because you're afraid of what the old guy will say/do. That fear is why we're here in the first place. The AD honored Boeheim by sticking by him through thick and thin and then they hired his underling. I don't blame them a bit for not...

Adrian Autry to Take Helm of Men's Basketball as Jim Boeheim's Storied Career Comes to End

Not the time, I know, but Boeheim made it pretty clear in recent years that he wasn't going to walk away from this job in a dignified manner. It would have to be taken from him.
  15. S

What I expect at this point…

Brey? Get donors to spend money on NIL and don't worry so much about who's coach. Just get someone competent and relatable to the players and we'll be miles ahead of where we are today.

Since 2014, where does Syracuse rank in tournament games played?

What? I wasn't referencing his cancer. I was referencing the fact that he's an 80-year old man coaching college basketball. Of course there's no precedent for us to follow. But that doesn't mean that he gets carte blanche to torpedo the program. People can pick nits about whether we're...

Since 2014, where does Syracuse rank in tournament games played?

No "legend" has coached in adult diapers before either. The idea that we need a precedent otherwise we're not being "fair" to Boeheim seems to me like a very high bar to clear. Can't believe the CoachPMustGo guy has gone soft in his old age.
  18. S

JB is the man. But let's rank your choice of potential successors

Agree. Get a smart strategist and evaluator in here and let the money do the rest. You don't need to pay for a big name IMO. It's like NBA coaching increasingly.

The Jim Boeheim Show - before BC II

    Okay, complacency then.

    Sean Lewis

It was a lazy take based on stereotypes. Drop it, you've lost this argument. Ain't the end of the world.
  21. S

    JB has changed

Who has ever thought that they have enough money? I'm sure you studied the wealth effect theory at SU. But okay fine. I'm sure retirement and a change in their lifestyles has its downside for her.
  22. S

I love JB and it's why this year has to be it

Maybe that's why they moved to Skaneateles so Julie doesn't have to hear the grumbling in the Fayetteville Wegman's. Super-rich people have better things to do. I don't think she's going to put any pressure on him to quit. I'm sure she's cheering him on to keep collecting the checks and stay...

Recruiting, what is the SU brand to entice the best recruits to commit to Cuse?

JB is the prime suspect. His abrasiveness, his public bullying of his players, the general inflexibility in gameplan and game management, declining results under him, and the fact that he's almost 80. Together it's a deadly combo.

    NIT

No team with a losing record has ever made the bracket.

    Does Buddy go west?

Yeah it would be fun to see him play on a deep and athletic team.

The guy can't keep his trap shut. That's about all I learned from this thread.

    Benny!

He's channeling Boeheim's pressers. Work of art!

Jesse Edwards Out For The Season

That's a problem of game management and recruitment then. However you look at it, the buck stops with old baldy.
  30. S

Class of 2020 ATH Tirek Murphy Jr (NY) Verbal to Purdue

This is one of those cases where you wonder what the kid is thinking. Who's going to take a flyer on him? If he was injured, then you have to worry about the injury. If he wasn't injured and can't play at URI, how is he going to play at a higher level?

What Jim Phillips has done to unify ACC football

You're leaving out the fact that Miami-FSU is a much bigger rivalry than Syracuse-Miami.
  32. S

Jesse Edwards Out For The Season

Winning streak is in real danger. Will be an amazing coaching job if Boeheim manages to rescue the season. Nice way to head out the door with good memories and goodwill. I will avoid making mention of the roster management as a major reason for the situation we find ourselves in.
  33. S

    I’m convinced

Yeah but I'm more hopeful now that the winning streak continues.

The next 5 teams we play all stink

What to expect this offseason to finish the class

QB competition this Spring will be interesting. One of the runners-up is probably a candidate for FBP.
  38. S

Class of 2017 DL Myles Cecil (CA) Transferring from Cal Poly/Offered

One thing that the coaches need to take up in the off-season is adjustments to the quiet and dead periods. With the portal and the increase in mid-year transfers, there has to be more time given for contact and official visits over the Winter break. It would probably cut down on kids quitting...

    Postgame Thoughts… Louisville

On a long enough timeline, everyone becomes useless. You should know.

    Postgame Thoughts… Louisville

Nothing gratuitous about it. Kids have been Boeheimed since the beginning of time.
  41. S

    Postgame Thoughts… Louisville

Yeah, we'll see. There's clearly a value to guys sticking with the program. We can see that in their development. Hopefully Benny sees that and Boeheim hasn't burned the bridges. Like most people with a ego-related hang-ups, his words/behavior can also be self-destructive.
  42. S

    Postgame Thoughts… Louisville

Agree. Hopefully the Woody Newton situation gives him some pause about moving on just because he's not playing much now. Transferring doesn't solve all problems and if he sticks with it he could have a jump like Jesse. He seems to realize that he has to work at his game to make himself into...

    Todays guest: Pete Davidson

I'm the opposite. I can see why women are attracted to him but I don't think he's funny at all. He's like Jimmy Fallon. His gimmick is breaking character. I just don't find that incredibly amusing.
  44. S

    Todays guest: Pete Davidson

Yeah I could see the appeal for SU from a buzz standpoint. Still don't quite get what it does for Weitsman. It's not like he's in a line of business where building a public profile is key. And paying guys to attend games with him is just kind of weird.
  45. S

Class of 2018 TE Steven Stilianos (VA) Grad Transfer from Lafayette College/Offered

This is what really puzzles me about the portal. What are these kids looking for? You would think that once you make a decision to enter the portal, you have a plan of some kind. You know the situation you want to find yourself in and want to make a quick decision to get that outcome. It...

Pitino as transitional hire to raise SU's profile

Iona-level competition helps to hide whatever physical and mental shortcomings Pitino may now have because of the aging process. He's like Tom Selleck killing it in Japan in Mr. Baseball. No one at Pitino's age has the same energy and drive they did when they were 40 or 50. And that's why...

John Wildhack “On The Block” 2-1

I've already answered this. The keyword is "competitive edge". The NCAA couldn't prove that Paterno gained a competitive edge from hiding the actions of a pedophile. Payola and coursework funny business are easier to argue for unfair competitive edge. The rules on paying players may have...

John Wildhack “On The Block” 2-1

NCAA reversed itself on the wins because they couldn't prove in court that PSU got a competitive edge from covering up for a pedophile. Boeheim was hit with payola and grades scandals and a failure to monitor/lack of institutional control penalty twice. That's in the NCAA's wheelhouse.
