    Playoff Representation

There are 270 players currently participating in the NBA playoffs. Two from SU (Anthony and Hughes). The most representation is Kentucky with 15 followed by Duke with 12.

    ACC and Top 25

    Wonder if Seton Hall tampered?

We played their two bottom feeders last year and got spanked. Year before our F4 team didn't do any better. Not much superiority recently . Kids have short memories.

    Wonder if Seton Hall tampered?

NYC Metro area to Syracuse too far????? My concern it is another indicator that the BE is in re-assendancy with NYC Metro kids.

How many years are fans willing to give JB to turn this around?

Indeed. Without Andrew White last year we would have been toast. Andrew is second only to Melo in PPG and yet remains unheralded at SU.

    Worst JB Team Ever

e e Ah yes. Second year in a row we did not make the NCAA tournament. Knocked out of BET in the first round. Rumors of JB's demise. Yes, we were in a slide then too and that would last one more year (although Red Bruin was a McDAA). Then we captured the Pearl and SU basketball was never...

    Worst JB Team Ever

e Good comments. The one and done thing has certainly thrown a monkey wrench into things and we have indeed had some good success in recent years. Look - the other side of the coin to my post ... JB seems to be wrestling with the problem. He is turning to graduate transfers to recapture...

    Worst JB Team Ever

This is JB's 19th team this century. He had 23 last century. I have seen them all and I think this year's team may be the worst. Brace yourself for rough ride. Check which JB team in the past did not have any McDAAs, had only one 5 star rated recruit, had 4 or less returning players and was...

    next year's starting Backcourt

Marek is 6'-9", less than 200# and a foreigner. My expectations are low. Maybe a fast bloomer and Melo Center hog. Van Horn was a 240# American.

Kenny Anderson: "I wanted to go to Syracuse."

I am only referencing the 89-90 season in this string. The Hoya game I am referring to was played at the Dome March 4, 1990, in front of a national attendance breaking crowd (last reg. game of the season). Michael Edwards played 42 mins in that game, just 1 min. less than Billy Owens. The...

Kenny Anderson: "I wanted to go to Syracuse."

Good post with sound data. No unsubstantiated, loose, opinionated reflections from you :) I actually think JB liked Michael Edwards as PG. I say this because the next season he had other options, yet Edwards still played 5th in minutes. With the arrival the following season (91) of Lawrence...

Kenny Anderson: "I wanted to go to Syracuse."

"The problem was, he wasn't any good." Hmmm. Consider this. Michael Edwards was just 4 points shy of being the only PG in SU history to lead his team to a BE league title and a BE tournament title in the same year. He joins Eddie Moss, the Pearl, the General and Jason Hart in winning the BE...
  20. orange2win

Kenny Anderson: "I wanted to go to Syracuse."

No, it was a major JB blunder. Frosh Michael Edwards replaced Dave Johnson at the start of BE schedule that year and thereafter started every game (4th in tot. mins played). He led the team to the BE title, beating a super Hoya team of Mourning/Mutombo and Stoudimire in the final game. He was...

Kenny Anderson: "I wanted to go to Syracuse."

Well, your memory here will be a lot sharper than mine, having been at the game. I watched it again. Your criticism of Edwards doesn't hold. He only played 9 mins in the 1st half and we were ahead by 4 at the half. He scored twice as many points as Johnson in half the time and as many as...

Kenny Anderson: "I wanted to go to Syracuse."

Sorry for the delay, only get a few mins here a day. Don't buy your comment. Edwards only played 9 mins - he was not the problem. Sure Lynch and Newbern were much bigger at 6'-5" and 6'-4" respectively. Edwards was just 5'-10" and a Fr. Mike Hopkins was 6'-5" and JB never put him in the...

Kenny Anderson: "I wanted to go to Syracuse."

Dave Johnson, Rich Manning, Tony Scott, Mike Hopkins and Conrad McRae off the bench. With Anderson, four McDAAs. Mind boggling. Without Anderson, we won BE league, lost in the final of BE tourney and in the S16. This team seriously under performed. Can't blame that all on Edwards. Not JB's...

1977 NCAA tournament Syracuse vs. Tennessee

More fun stats from that game: Bernie and Ernie and Louis & Bouie all fouled out Bernie and Ernie both had a double/double - with 12 RBs each. The mighty rebounder Bouie had just 2. Louis had 9; neither had a double/double - but we won Darden had 12 Asts, Kindel had 3 - and we won Bernie &...

1977 NCAA tournament Syracuse vs. Tennessee

I expect this is the only surviving game of the 1977 team, albeit with the finish missing. Only other possibility would be the Charlotte S16 game, which I can find no trace of. Although there are a few tiny snippets of the Bonny game out there.

What a find Alsacs. Brilliant. SU playing man, UT playing zone! JB's first season as head coach and still playing Roy's loose, fast, style. Unfortunately missing the OT ending, which we won 93-88. Larry Kelley leading scorer with 22. Got blown out next round (S16) by Charlotte and Cedric...

    Is Red our next HC

I was surprised at the sentiment expressed here at HOP's 4-5 record. It would have been totally inappropriate for him to have broken stride with JB's system over a 9 game mid-season stretch. I am sure HOP and JB had that clear understanding. The exact opposite should have been the case. HOP...

How would you like to be in such a lousy league

The AAC is a nice conference. 30% of their teams finished with a higher RPI than SU, which at 84 was good enough for the middle of the ACC.

Will Hopkins cont' to recruit our territory?

About 2012, the hotest guard prospect in the nation (Tony Wroten) from Seattle, told everyone he wanted to come play at SU. His uncle was an old star with the Knicks and the kid wanted to play BE and the Garden. JB never offered him a scholarship, (don't know why), so he went to UW. He's now...

They will be a handful. Have beaten some good teams - Memphis, Saint Joes, Montana. Lost to Baylor (ranked #5) by 3 and Florida by 7. Everyone is up for the #1 seed.
  36. orange2win

So what is up with Lydon?

Agree. Been disappointing. Lacking stamina for the minutes played perhaps and too many minutes at center, not his position. He did have a double/double, so a pretty good performance.

The NCAA should just go to 128 and drop the NIT

Yea, but every weak conference wants to be represented in the tournament, even though they have no chance, and that is their right. We are a +64 team this year and if we could play our way back into the tournament, you could never convince me that this year's team has no chance. It could win 5...

The NCAA should just go to 128 and drop the NIT

There's room for improvement. Don't expand to 128, but allow the existing "playoff" round to expand and used as a filter, so the prevailing team(s) gain access to the tournament. In other words, the current NIT would screen the +64 crowd. This could be done in about a week.

    Kentucky effect

Indeed. But for the two mercenaries, we would have been a disaster this year. We got those two because they saw an opportunity.
  44. orange2win

    Lydon

You are correct. He could do well in the NBDL and if he gets the chance I expect he will grab it. The lack of athletism and JB's proclamation that he is a 40 min. man are linked in my view. If he was being properly subbed, we would see a different Tyler.

We are all hoping we will be in on Sunday, but for the Committee, it comes down to choosing from a handful of close resumes. Sadly, it is hard for me to think they will reward the team that has the worst loss in Dome history. Just can't see it, in spite of some great wins and a team that could...
