    Expectations for next season.

Yeah, but do I expect a tournament team that wasn't on the bubble or a top 10 team? We have to wait to see how the roster shakes out before we can have an expectation.

Class of 2024 QB Jakhari Williams (GA) COMMITTED / SIGNED NLI TO SYRACUSE (6/25/23)

I imagine, if we have a comfortable lead, we may not see whichever QB is in that game throw a pass. HCFB seems like the type that will choose to run the other team into submission until the clocks hit zero.

Our crying need. A true center!

Yeah, he had everything but that and that's where I could see preferring Hughes. It's a tough call.

Our crying need. A true center!

I agree, he completed a great team almost without weakness. Hughes had to carry a team a lot more with many weaknesses. That's what makes it a tough call for me.

Our crying need. A true center!

I might take Hughes over him just by a hair. That 2010 team was one of my favorites, but I feel like Hughes had to carry us more his last year, whereas Johnson got to be a great piece on a team filled with great pieces that all complemented each other perfectly to be more than the sum of their...

    Mich St went 19-14???

In college sports you aren't always what your record says you are (That's also the dumbest cliche in sports. I don't care that Bill Parcells said it). Look at the small conference teams with great records. Schedules are so wildly varying. We weren't crying when Big East schools were getting in...

Random plays that stick with you

This wasn't a really exciting one, but I remember Stevie Thompson taking the ball at Mutumbo, elevating, and floating one just over his outstretched arm for a bucket. There was something about a guy going right at someone a foot taller that always stuck out to me even though it wasn't some sort...

NIL killed the G League Ignite

It would be way down the list of what recruits would consider important. If we were talking about Kevin Durant or Melo that might be different. Guys we're recruiting now don't even know who Warrick is.

Something must be done about this

It's not theft because the money wasn't a contract with obligations to play. It was an endorsement contract. If he took the money and didn't fulfill his endorsement obligations it's theft. Nevermind that everyone knows guys are being paid to come to the school. Being connected to playing can't...

NIL killed the G League Ignite

Schools paying wouldn't change anything because that would only be in addition to boosters paying, and legally that can't be capped. It would be like the NBA telling Nike what they can pay Lebron.
  17. sufandu

NIL killed the G League Ignite

I don't think so. They're just reallocating some of the money they were giving for nap rooms and putting greens. Rich boosters are obsessive. Did you catch the story somebody told about the LSU fan that bought land after returning from the war? He struck oil on it and hasn't worked a day or...

    GMAC to Siena

Or Jeremy McNeil's blocks or Edelin's point guard play or Craig Forth's solid defense or Warrick's post play or or or... GMac may be a great coach. He may even be better than Red. Your reasoning, however, is more than flawed. Again, the reasons you're not an AD are clear.

    GMAC to Siena

It all depends on potential for advancement. Big time schools usually want guys to prove they can be a head coach somewhere smaller before they hire them unless they're making a continuity hire. GMac doesn't have the option of the continuity hire, so he may need to take the short term pay cut to...

10' is about what the RBs get. It's harder than you'd think. I was a solid athlete. I long jumped over 18' in high school. I had a friend that had a standing broad jump mat that we rolled out one day. At 31 yrs old I got about 8 ft.

A fellow Syracuse alum trying to destroy what makes the NCAA tourney great...

OK. I'm wrong about JB, but there really haven't been that many double digit seeds to make the final 4 recently. There have have been 4 since 2011 and 5 since 2006. I know that's more than before, but to me 4 out off 48 isn't enough. I don't really care how many have made the elite 8. Having...

I don't trust JB's opinion on it. I think his perspective changed when we got worse and missed the tournament. He blamed parity instead of acknowledging our decline. I think you expand if play in at larges begin to become regular final four participants or one wins it all. Until then, leave it...

Class of 2021 PF Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (PA)

I don't know what to expect from Maliq next year. I've seen too many guys that showed glimpses of skills but lacked aggressiveness never develop the aggressiveness. If he does, he would be great for us. If not, he's still a great glue guy but then we need others around him to be the aggressors.

Class of 2021 PF Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (PA)

Taking the available open shots would be a step in the right direction and maybe enough depending on what else is around him. Do we need him to be a playmaker or a complementary piece?
  28. sufandu

Class of 2021 PF Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (PA)

It would likely be match up dependent, which is good. Maliq is the better player so I think he would take the bulk of the 15 mpg, but if we needed extra rim protection from time to time it would be McLeod.

Class of 2021 PF Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (PA)

Ultimately it's not. But if that's the kind of player we can land and we can land another upgrade at another position of need while having returning guys improve, that gets us better, Hopefully good enough to be a tourney team. Then we sell that to the next batch of recruits/transfers and keep...

I hate the people that run big time college sports. They've done all they could to ruin football with conference realignment with basketball suffering collateral damage. Now they want to target basketball directly. Greedy POS.

Sure. I hope he either gets better or has a diminishing role because we recruit better. Regardless, it's rare that all 5 starters are stars. My main point has been that there is area in the spectrum between terrible and awesome. JJ is in that area. Interestingly, Duany actually played fewer mpg...

    JJ Starling

I'm not saying I build my team around him or that he can't be recruited over, but he shot 35% from 3 in ACC play to go with his solid midrange game. He can contribute to a winning team. As a sophomore did anyone think Kueth Duany would be starting guard on a championship team? I doubt it. Is he...

    JJ Starling

I didn't say it was a badge of honor but it's not garbage either. And it was in the context of his horrible start. If he plays all year the way he played the last half, his average his higher. As I said, he showed things that can be built on. Some guys do get better. Maybe he can be one. Does he...

    JJ Starling

Very poor at offense is a bit strong. He averaged 13 ppg for the season after starting the year terribly. He showed things that can be built on. He may never live up to the MAA hype, but a double figure scorer on a team with upgraded pieces can do a lot for us.

Class of 2021 PF Brandon Huntley-Hatfield (PA)

It doesn't matter. There are good players to be found on teams with bad records if you are good at scouting. Culture shouldn't be established by an incoming player. It should be established by the coach.

    Red's system

Calhoun's UConn teams excelled at it. It drove me nuts when they'd beat us down the floor for a layup after we made a basket.
  40. sufandu

    Red's system

That would be interesting. I'm not sure we could push the ball with him but he had a way of getting wherever he wanted in the half court and being completely under control at all times. Give him a post guy and 2-3 shooters and our halfcourt offense would kill it.

Just got back from Cap One...

You can't miss shots you don't take. He passed up 95% of his wide open looks that weren't layups or dunks. It's why his fg% was so high. He's a really good passer, but teams started to figure out he wasn't going to shoot and sagged off him.

Just got back from Cap One...

Yeah. If he has the tools, he needs to be more assertive. Some guys don't have that kind of personality though. Hopefully, he can develop it. He passed up lots of open shots or opportunities to try to beat his guy with a one or two dribble move this year. Even if he's going to be a pass first...

Can’t argue with the NET anymore….

I hate hearing about the NET or quad X records or BPI or RPI. I want to be good enough that we don't have to hope whichever of these metrics the committee uses is good enough for us to squeak in. I long for the days that I complained that we got screwed on seeding.

Joe Girard playing well, Clemson down double figures.

Just got back from Cap One...

We can't have 9 more turnovers and 9 fewer offensive rebounds. We shot a higher percentage and three point shooting was basically a wash, but they had 8 more fg attempts. Teams that play better in the paint tend to draw more fouls and that explains some of the discrepancy there. We were a soft...
